Exciting - Should see the video first
Excellent book. Yossi is a very good writer and storyteller. I would recommend seeing the TV documentary: I shouldnt be alive - Escape from the amazon. The documentary on animal planet and discovery channel give a good outline of this story. The middle part of the book is gripping. I couldnt put the book down. I just wanted to see what would happen next. I live in South America and what yossi describe is accurate. I dont understand the reviewers who say its all made up. The Jaguar is the apex predator in these parts. But most of the time the snakes will get you first. It is amazing that yossi survived 20 days in the forest. Of course his cuts were infected with inflammation, he was infested with mosquito borne parasitic worms under the skin and also had numerous leeches.Yossi could have died 20 times over. It is one of the most incredible survival stories I have ever read and Yossi came out in one piece. Other stories didnt end so nicely, with limbs having to be amputated and so on. I suggest you read this book, it is one of the best.

Compelling from beginning to end
The genuine and humble tone set by Ghinsberg during this authentic story led me through a fantastic virtual journey through the largest, wildest, and most pristine rainforest on the planet. I was surprised at every turn of the page by my continuous, riveting engagement in the narrative, and the author’s vivid descriptions of the Amazon Basin’s unspoiled natural beauty.

Harrowing Tale of Loss and Redemption
This story was so gripping, except for the first 20 pages or so, I read it in one sitting. The language is not flowery or embellished, but would make a great movie screenplay. You almost wanted to yell at the protagonist for making so many foolhardy decisions, but I think in the end he redeemed himself for his sheer force of will to survive. This story is not for the faint of heart, lurid descriptions of hellish experiences with swarming termites and flesh -rotting feet fungus are what stand out the most. Some people are drawn to danger and love the lure of wild places, so the pay off is an indelible experience that shapes their lives in ways that few of us can partake in.

An okay read
I found this book to be quite exciting at times and overall not a bad read, however i feel it was let down by Yossi's writing ability. I think he rushed the exhilarating parts and dragged out the less important moments. It was in no way hard to get through, but just a slight let down overall.Nonetheless, the story is undeniably an amazing example of human ability to push the limits of our bodies in catastrophic situations. Yossi Ghinsberg is incredibly lucky to be able to live to tell the tale. I would recommend this book to people looking for a decent non-fiction survival tale, however I would sooner recommend something like Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand, or Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer.

True Story of Survival in the Jungle - WOW!
Three weeks trying to walk out of the Amazon jungle - alone, with little food, unarmed, unprepared - WOW! Surviving predator attacks, finding food in an unknown land, surviving serious injuries, flash flooding . . .Before buying this book I read some negative reviews, some criticizing the author for stupidity and abandoning friends, etc. In fact, the author and his associates did make some stupid choices. However, after suffering the consequences of bad choices (or bad luck), the author survives by making many good choices, even though ill prepared for this endeavor, in many ways. His determination to survive, through all adversity makes the story worth reading. This is the story of three friends who hired a guide to take them into the Amazon jungle. At the time, the author was in his early twenties. At this age, and recently leaving the military, he surely thought himself invincible. This is the time in life when REAL adventures happen. Some readers have criticized the author for going into the jungle without proper preparation. But, that is what true adventure and exploration really is. Going into unknown territory is always a risk. You really never know what might happen. Having the ingenuity and perseverance to cope with any obstacle is what makes a survivor. The first half of the book is mostly an introduction to the trip into the jungle, and is a little tedious. But, the meat of the book is well worth it. The closing of the book is also a little tedious, but shows how a major incident fits into the big picture of life, and the effects it can have. And there is an unsolved mystery . . . even 30 years later! After reading, I had to check to be sure this was a true story. And yes, it is.

Incredible!
I randomly stumbled upon the movie first. I hardly can get into a movie but I loved it. 10/10 film forme. Then I learned it was based off a true story and there was a book. The book was obviously so much better and explained so many questions I had from th movie. I've been raving about the film and book to all of my friends. So thrilling, a true white knuckle book.

Gripping adventure. Bettered than the movie adaptation" Jungle ".
I have to confess to seeking this out after having watched the movie " Jungle". The book is rich with detail, lively imagination, and human drama. The book explains many details left out of the movie starring Daniel Radcliffe . I found myself wondering over and over why we feel the need to go on these adventures that are destined to fail and will likely kill us or maim us for life if we survive. I have been close to the Amazon in my travels but am too fearful of its power to destroy to ever venture inside.

Good book but don't buy it twice....
I LOVED this book but every time I see it, it has had three different titles and it comes up as not being part of my existing library for this reason. This could lead to buying the book over and over, so be careful with this item! Why does Amazon (or the authors or whoever it is) keep changing the title?

Dennoch sehr lesenswert
