It was a bit difficult finding plates that the guards would work on. Some plastic plates, although the correct size were too thin and the guards slipped off. Some porcelain/stoneware plates had rims that kept the guards from fitting. Once we found correct plates, the guards worked well.

While a good design it wasn't quite useful enough to enable my son to scoop his food, for better abled folks it probably works great
