Somebody please publish a good, complete Charleston guidebook
This is not a bad book, it's just too small.Charleston and Savannah are such lovely destinations that they deserve 1) a guide completely independent of other area destinations such as Hilton Head, Myrtle Beach and Beaufort, and 2) a book comprehensive enough that prospective visitors get a feel for the real diversity and historical authenticity of the respective cities. This book, unfortunately, does neither of those things. Sure, at least it's got the facts right, and the author is obviously both informed and enthusiastic, but where's the beef? It's the same old tourist destinations written with the same old tepid recommendations. In two cities where historic architecture is a major, MAJOR draw, a book like this should feature at least 20 sites from each, minimum. Listings of hotels should be as comprehensive as possible. I've yet to find a Charleston travel guide that mentions the best small boutique hotel in the city, Zero George, anywhere within its pages. A listing of Charleston restaurants that fails to mention Slightly North of Broad is, quite simply, incomplete. So I'll get off my soapbox. This book is not going to steer you wrong, but it's not going to give you the tools to appreciate the full scope of Charleston and Savannah attractions either.

This book primarily covers hotels and restaurants. It would be great if you are staying for several days in any of the areas it talks about, but I'm a day-tripper, and I want to quickly know where to go and what to see. Technically there was some of that in this book, but very little and just not as touristy or helpful as I prefer. So it could be good, it just depends on your personality and what information you need while traveling.

Somewhat difficult to use
The information in this is good but it is not very user friendly when touring the cities. I preferred the Moon Guide which gave helpful information about buildings within an area. The restaurant and hotel reviews are helpful in planning a trip.

Quite disappointing
This book was a huge disappointment. When I buy travel books (Fodor's and Frommer's), I want "recommendations" / opinions. I buy those to quickly learn the "best" options -- of the multitude of options available. This book lacked that. It was more of ... here are your options ... period. Nothing I couldn't get on-line. Waste of money!
