I'm using this to reclaim the denatured alcohol that I use to clean resin prints. It does work for this task as a flocculant.

On old steam whistles there are sometimes ancient rusted screws that break of in the brass valves. I boil the parts in a glass pot with alum mixed in to dissolve the steel screws out of the brass. It does work though I'm still playing with mixture amounts as it takes awhile and it does tend to leave sort of a soft residue in the threaded hole. Also I've got some 1" iron pipes stuck that I intend to see if it will handle that big a job. Overall I'm satisfied so far and the price was the best for the amount. May see it it will grow crystals eventually, too.

Does not work for crystal formation, is not pure Alum.

This item is sold as ‘Alum’ (Potassium Aluminum Sulfate sp.) and even in the Q&A section, when customers ask about the chemical composition, the response is that it is “Potassium aluminum sulfate” However, I wanted to use it for growing crystals, which works well with Potassium aluminum sulfate, but DOES NOT work with other aluminum sulfate sp. - as I’ve found from trial/error; and this product did not work for my application So I gather that it most likely does not contain potassium. To better further my point, it also stated on the ‘nutrition facts’ on the back of the product that there is 0% potassium, which did not instill confidence, but I decided to test it just to be sure. Therefore, it is, most likely, not as described, and I am an unsatisfied customer who would like their money back
