Enter a fascinating, ornately drawn cityscape and help a boy find his dragon while counting objects from hot dogs to traffic lights. In the heart of the city, among the taxis and towers, a small boy travels uptown and down, searching for his friend. Readers will certainly spot the glorious beast, plus an array of big-city icons they can count. Is the dragon taking the crosstown bus, or breathing his fiery breath below a busy street? Maybe he took a taxi to the zoo or is playing with the dogs in the park. Steve Lightโs masterful pen-and-ink illustrations, decorated with meticulous splashes of color, elevate this counting book (numbers 1โ20) to new heights. Maybe the dragon is up there, too! She also loves books, and this book is filled with such good and wonderful words and pictures. A little boy has lost his dragon. This little boy lives in New York City, and he decides to go find him. Starting with the number one, each number is identified by a certain color and objects that designate that number. The storyline is charming and filled with wonder. Upon opening the package I was stunned with how beautiful it was; green foil lettering for the title and the dragon on the front cover, pen and ink illustrations with highlights of color on each page, and take off the dust jacket to see more (the black on green is just awesome!). First, I read the book by myself (three times!). There is so much to look at in the illustrations, so many details. I loved the maps on the endpapers! Then, I read it to my six-year-old and three-year-old sons. They loved counting the items, and finding the dragon and the boy on each page. They got more involved as we got deeper into the book -- they wanted to count all the items all the way to 20! I was not disappointed with this book! It was everything I expected and more!

My children love this book
My children love this book. It does not contain a lot of written words, but the story is fun, and it allows children to use their imagination and interact with the reader. My children love to look for the dragon, ask questions about the intricate illustrations, and we practice counting and colors while we read it. Visually, I love the primarily monochromatic illustrations with a touch of color. It is a fun book to read with young children because it is interactive and it never feels redundant.

Wonderful book that includes counting, numbers and map reading
This book is so much fun! It's a book that young children can grow into. It works well for very little ones (with supervision since it's not a board book), but also great for older kids. The main character goes on a hunt throughout NYC looking for his dragon. Along the way you count from 1-20 and there are different colors on each page. Fantastic illustrations.

Great book for a young one interested in dragons
Great book for a young one interested in dragons, I spy adventure and counting. This book leads the reader through the subways, parks, and rooftops of NYC, all the while hunting for the elusive dragon 'hidden' on each page. It is wonderfully also a counting book, discovering and counting objects throughout. (taxi's, buses, etc) I really loved that the pages were done in primarily black and white line drawings which could easily be copied for the young reader to color. The objects to be counted and the dragon were always in color for ease in counting and finding. 3 year old really loved it,

Grandson's favorite book since he was 6 mo. old
First book I bought our grandson and it has grown with him. He is now 4 and still loves it, so I bought this one for my nieces new son. There is so much to see and learn and it truly does grow with your child. They can learn colors, to count and to be inquisitive, to search for hidden things and to see so much on each page.

Excellent.
Super cute art. The line drawings, with just the counting items highlighted is smart and unique. A counting book that goes beyond ten, and has a bit of a storyline too. We have his shape book too (Have You Seen My Monster), and I'm planning on checking out Swap! when my toddler is a little older. I can't wait to see what he comes out with next.

a bit disappointing
I bought this book because of the illustrations. They are really good but the story itself is non-existent. Also, I find the items really easy to find. My eldest daughter (7) has shown little interest in this book, because she finds it too easy. My youngest (5) does spend a bit more time counting the items, but it's not one of her favorite books.

Truly Amazing
This is my 2 year old's favourite book. She loves counting, saying colours and even finding the dragon! It's amazing how the artist connects to his tiny readers!
