ColumbiaMen's Backcast Convertible Pant

I've been wearing basically the exact same pants full-time for the last dozen years: thin, lightweight nylon pants, that convert to shorts, with a mesh liner so you can use them while backpacking without underwear, and cargo pockets for a little extra storage.For a long time, the sole pants I could find that met all those requirements were Columbia's Aruba IV (or prior) pants. I bought four pairs of them in 2009, then another four in 2013. Unfortunately, in the time since 2013, they've discontinued them.I've never found anything matching these exact requirements, but it seems Columbia still comes closest. The Backcast convertible pants are nearly identical to the Aruba IV, except that they're missing a front cargo pocket (partially mesh so it drains water) on each leg, and they add a small credit-card-sized pocket on the right leg to hold a small wallet. (They're pretty much perfect for me to fit my current wallet made of bicycle inner tubes that expands to hold a bunch of credit cards and perhaps a few bills.)They're not *exactly* what I wanted. But they get the job done. I used the prior cargo pockets mostly to carry a wallet and a pocket Constitution. My current very-thin wallet fits in the new wallet pocket. The pocket constitution will fit in a normal pocket on the leg. With those redistributed to either position, my legs feel as unencumbered as they did with the previous pants.If you want lightweight pants suitable for backpacking or pretty much any activity, these work great. Do note: lightweight comes at a little cost in durability. This nylon breaks wind and even sheds beads of water to some degree. But if it rips...that's functionally a looming death sentence. For me, it's worth the tradeoff.If these had cargo pockets, I'd give them five stars. But they otherwise get the job done, so four stars.

Veryy good quality and great price considering it's Columbia.

Waist fit well but legs longer than 30” inseam And I needed to shorten. Color good. Well made but no zipper. I never thought about that until my husband called it to my attention. Be aware!

I love these pants - light weight, very comfortable and easily a summer fishing pant. They are very baggy below the knee and for my use, easily fit over my wading boots. The L34 fits in waist and length for my 6'1" 180lb body. The waist has belt loops but also a drawstring.I don't know why I resisted a summer/sun fishing pants for as long as I did.

I returned this item. It didn't fit.

I got this for a good price but unfortunately it does not fit well, so I have to return it.

Generally a good pant. After a few washes, one of the pockets store. I carry a lot of stuff in my pockets when hiking. The tear is kind of a pain, so I stopped using the pants.
