Experience Triumph like a rock star in this rugged boot from Dr. Martens. The combat-derived profile and prominent metal buckle channel exactly the right attitude. The chunky rubber sole keeps you comfortable and adds that distinctive Dr. Martens look. Dr. Martens is the stuff of legends. It all began near Munich, Germany in 1945 when Dr. Klaus Maertens injured his foot in a skiing accident in the Bavarian Alps. To make walking easier during the healing process, he designed a shoe with an air-cushioned sole. Using old rubber tires, he constructed soles that had air trapped within closed compartments. He showed his prototype to his engineer/inventor friend, Dr. Herbert Funck, and together they decided to develop and produce the shoes. Not only did the shoe solve the doctor's immediate problem, but it also started to sell well in Germany. By 1959 the two decided that they needed a company to produce and distribute the shoes, then called Dr. Maertens, in other parts of the world. At first, many manufacturers rejected the concept of an air cushioned sole as a short-lived gimmick. However, the R. Griggs Group, located in the village of Wollaston in England, decided to go along with the idea by creating the first work boot with the revolutionary sole. On the first of April 1960, the first cherry red eight-eyelet work boot was produced and named 1460. To sell the brand name better in England, the name was anglicized to Dr. Martens. The range was branded AirWair and the rest is history. Review: Awesome Boot! - I ordered these for Christmas for my boyfriend as he needed some new boots and has loved D Martins, he's had the same pairs for about 8 years LOL. I found these myself for him, as he likes an edgy look and loves buckles. He has worn them everyday since Christmas. He loves them, he said he loves that the buckle is real, because it makes them even cooler! He wears a size 8 to 8.5 mens US, so I got the 7UK and they fit him PERFECT! He says they are very comfortable, and he is on his feet all day as a hair stylist. No complaints here, it was his favorite gift. Even better, we got a steal through desertcart/Seller during black Friday and got them 45% off! If you go to Dr Martens website, Macy's or Dillards, the price is $160.... Great buy! Very Please! THank you! Review: More for hipsters than bikers, but still a nice boot - The laces that come with it aren't long enough. The two upper eyelets are unusable if you want to tie the boots. The buckle is almost impossible to tighten up enough while the boot is on your foot. If you do manage to tighten it, good luck getting the excess strap (there probably won't be a lot) back under the leather loop which holds it down. For me to use them, I had to set the buckle one notch looser than I'd like while the boots were off and then cram my feet into them. It's a little inconvenient but not a deal breaker. I am a little disappointed in how loose the boots fit with an improperly adjusted strap and laces that aren't long enough to use all of the eyelets. I will order new laces which I suspect will make the boots snug enough, though it is kind of a let down to have to order new laces for brand new boots. The above difficulties lead me to believe these boots were designed to be worn untied and floppy, ala Judd Nelson in the Breakfast Club. I bought these to use as motorcycle boots as their style matches my old jacket. They work as biker boots, though are probably a little lacking in proper protection if that is a concern of yours. With my list of annoyances written down, you may be wondering why I rated these boots a 4/5 stars? The simple answer to that is that they look pretty great once you finally get them on. If I had it to do over, I might buy a different pair (The standard Dr. Martens 1460 in black) but I'm happy enough with these and expect them to become easier to put on as they break in.

More for hipsters than bikers, but still a nice boot
The laces that come with it aren't long enough. The two upper eyelets are unusable if you want to tie the boots. The buckle is almost impossible to tighten up enough while the boot is on your foot. Awesome pair of boots!
Comfortable and sturdy, yet beautiful and soft this pair will last for years. I ware shoe size 11 1/2 US. I bought size 10UK and they fit perfectly. The side buckle is very functional and accents the overall tough look of the boots. I am very pleased with the purchase!

I Love These Boots!
I've been wearing Dr. Martens for at least 20 years and I still have some of my older ones. These are my first pair not made in England, but the quality hasn't slipped... they are still most-definitely "Docs". I just finished a trip to Mexico City to do the whole museum thing and these were the only shoes I wore... so comfy and my feet didn't suffer at all, even though they were only a few days old before we started this trip. I love the buckle, too. I like to lace my shoes to make them sort of slip-ons, and I gave it a try with these. I was able to lace them in a way that gave the boot enough of a snug fit, but allowed me to slip them on, then tighten across the foot with the buckle. Awesome! I now have a boot that is easy to remove/put back on at airport TSA/security! Comfy, comfy, comfy... with the classic "Doc" looks!

Decent motorcycle boot
I use these as motorcycle boots that I also wear them all day at work. After a year and a half of daily use and hard riding they are worn nearly smooth on the bottom and have flat spots on the sides from scraping pavement. They survived a crash just fine and the leather still looks great. I ride with them on sport bikes, cruisers, and dirt bikes without any issues. They get lots of compliments from people. I lace it two below the top and wrap them around the ankle and tuck them into the strap, this is nice so they won't fall off and the laces stay out of moving parts.

Nice boots that seemed to fit a little weirdly.
Overall, these are pretty nice shoes. They look good, and are reasonably comfortable for heavy boots. I only have a few small complaints. The shoes themselves run very large. I ordered two sizes smaller than I typically wear and I was still swimming in them. They also have a sort of odd foot shape. the sides of the shoe fit well, while there was still another two or three sizes worth of extra length. If you have longer thinner feet, these would probably fit you really well. Lastly, the upper portion of the boot is made from thinner leather than I would have expected. My guess is that it is for appearance, since it makes the boots look a little more worn in once they are tied down tight, but I'm not 100% sure what it would do to durability. Ultimately, the boots just weren't going to fit my foot shape, so I ended up returning them, but for the right person, they'd be very nice.

Perfect!
I have a number of pairs of Docs. Love them all, and these are no exception. I was looking for something that was suited not only for work, but for motorcycling. These fit the bill perfectly. the look great, are as comfortable as a pair of sneakers, and fit perfectly. Sizing wise, they fit me like all Doc Martens. I wear a US men's 12, and always get an 11 from Docs. Ordered the 11, and they are perfect. Highly recommended.

too loose
I ordered this boot to wear as my motorcycle riding boots. Look pretty cool. I wear a size 9 1/2 US mens. ordered size 8 uk / 9 us mens. In the past, Dr Martens has always fit my foot great...but these did not. Not at all. The length was was perfect but the width was waaaaaaay too wide, almost as if it were supposed to be an extra wide. Then there was so much extra material around the boot that when I went to lace it up, I had it as tight as it would go and it was still too loose around my foot, ankle and calf. Not really sure if the boots I received were just messed up or if all of these fit that way.???? Needless to say, I sent them back.
