Co-writer/director Jean-Marie Poiré and co-writer/co-star Christian Clavier teamed up with John Hughes (Home Alone) to remake their 1993 French smash-hit Les Visiteurs. It’s 12th-century France and Count Thibault (Jean Reno, Léon: The Professional) finds his beautiful bride-to-be (Christina Applegate, The Sweetest Thing) done in by malevolent magic. So, he and his loyal servant Andre (Christian Clavier, Asterix and Obelix vs. Caesar) request the help of a local wizard (Malcolm McDowell, Britannia Hospital) to right the wrong and bring his beloved back. But the wizardry goes awry and the pair are transported to 21st-century Chicago where they meet Thibault’s descendant Julia (Applegate) and her scheming fiancé. With their timeless values of honor and courage, they wreak havoc foiling diabolical plots in modern-day Chicago and try to find their way back home. Just Visiting is one very funny fish-out-of-water comedy, co-starring Tara Reid (National Lampoon’s Van Wilder) and Bridgette Wilson-Sampras (Billy Madison). Special Features:-THE MAGIC BEHIND THE MAGIC - Featurette -Audio Commentary by Entertainment Journalist and Author Bryan Reesman -5.1 Surround and 2.0 Stereo -Optional English Subtitles -Theatrical Trailer

Good Movie Bad Disc
Really enjoyed this movie in the past, purchased the Blue Ray version for a gift for quality and extras. The container stated that it was for USA Blue Ray but "may not play on some machines" ??? When inserted in my Samsung Blue Ray player there were no menu options given to start the movie - no "play" or "settings," just the cover photo and looping music. When inserted in my Panasonic Blue Ray it played, but about 1/3 in it started to freeze. By 2/3rds in it was skipping badly, pixelating on the screen & the sound was cutting out. I didn't try it on my computer because I don't care to watch movies on that small a screen. Perhaps the standard version works better?

Awesome for the whole family. Laugh your bottom off funny.
Hilarious and fantastic. We have seen the Visitors that is a french version of this movie, the original first movie that was made, it is with the same main actors but it is happeningin France. This one is happeing in USA.they are both fantatstic and kids love them to pieces. Absoulutely fabulous to watchfor the whole family.I like Christine Applegate but she never looked more fabulous and acted more spectacularthen in this movie. She was great in the Christmas movie with Affleck but in this oneshe is just beyond brilliant! Amazing acting.

A comedy the whole family can enjoy
Like me, you may have totally missed this gem when it came out in 2001. It is just plain funny without vulgarity or cheap sex jokes. Mr. Reno does a great job of a person trying to retain a 12th century mindset while confronted with 21st century "culture." He reminds us that people in the 12th century were not stupid, just, well, in the 12th century! His aid (a serf) is very slapstick, and you will crack-up over the scenes involving the "magic blue fountain" and forest fresh mints! Christina Applegate does well with deadpan humor. There is a subtle, almost wistful undertone surrounding past times when men were honorable and brave, despite the totally outrageous plot. The very few vulgarities are often delivered with French accents and there are no sex scenes, so I suggest this is one the whole family can enjoy.

JUST sayin'... JUST VISITING isn't "just" funny. It's a masterpiece... almost as good as the original FRENCH version.
I already HAVE the Digital Video Disc-----L=O=V=E this time-travel comedy-----purchasedthe Blu-ray because the price was amazing [and, it IS at the, proper,2.35:1 aspect-ratio].I also have "The Visitors" (1996) with Christian Clavier & Jean Reno;Jean-Marie Poiré (Director) | Rated: R... but THAT one---now---costs $80, all-by-itself!IF Peter Sellers made a time travel movie, it COULDN'T be any more enjoyable to watch.Wet your pants funny; watch it with someone you love (but NOT gran'ma!)IF you're FRENCH... I recommend:" The Visitors Trilogy - 3-DVD Set ( Les Visiteurs / Les Couloirs du temps: Les visiteurs 2 / Les Visiteurs en Amérique ) ( The Visitors / The Corridors of [ NON-USA FORMAT, PAL, Reg.2 Import - France ]

A Visitor From the Past
I wish Ive seen this movie sooner. Ive always been a fan of Christine Applegate and I always loved her in Dont Tell Mom the Babysitters Dead and of course Married With Children. She's so super talented. After finding out I'm related to her and her 7th cousin I was astonished! This movie is right up my alley since I do ancestry and her ancestor coming from the past of the 12th century France and running into her is a fantastic story. It was original. They didnt know what anything is we have nowadays and when they get to the millennium and and its so funny.

such a funny, and over all great film!!... a must have in my own personal opinion....
i have always heard various things about this particular movie, and at first, i wasent so sure i even wanted to ever see it, but i later on decided, id give it a chance, so i rented it from our local library, and im so glad i did... i love this movie, and for someone who dosent usually laugh, at even a movie where most people tend to if it is generally a funny type movie, i laughed my ass off through the entire thing.... i love how this movie has such a rennisance type feel to it, and even though i do not recognize the french actors who play the knight, and his man servant, i think they do a hell of an acting job... ive always loved christina applegate, from her role in "dont tell mom the babysitters dead", and as ditzy, brain dead kelly in married with children, and i think she also does a hell of an acting job in this as well.... in all, im just so glad i finally gave this movie a chance.... very funny, well written, and just a great movie to own in all.... comes highly reccomended in my own personal opinion...... a good family film as well i must agree.......

Mindless romp
First of all, how did they get Jean Reno to star in this movie? It must have been a decent pay day for him as he walks thru his part without breaking a sweat. The premise is funny and if you can get past the actors going through the motions there are a couple funny parts. Good to watch with the kids.

WTF?
Can I do zero stars? I am amazed by the positive reviews. This is yet another british/european movie/tv show remake that is unwatchable. Not saying the original was high art, but compared to this it is a Shakespeare. Did they employ out of work, third level sitcom writers to write the script? They must have, because the humor is predictable, shallow, and unoriginal. Shouldn't be surprised as American remakes of other great shows like Coupling and Red Dwarf have been equally as lame. $3.99 I wish I could have back.

Cheaper elsewhere
I returned this as all the writing on it was in German so I didn't want to open it and find it unwatchable. I then discovered an English copy on ebay for less than half the price!

Very funny dvd
Having seen the original french version which is fantastic, i wanted to see the american remake which is truly awful and so american!!! Some funny scenes and the characters are so clean compared to the french film. Good contrast. For the price worth having a look.

A fun movie
Often criticised as just a poor relation of the original "Les Visiteurs" and it is very similar it's still an enjoyable movie. One can't be too critical of a film that is just meant to be bit of fun - we're not looking for "meaning" here.
