Quartet Records and Gruppo Sugar present a mammoth 2-CD set presenting for the first time ever the famous original score by Nino Rota (THE LEOPARD, LA DOLCE VITA, OTTO E MEZZO, ROMEO & JULIET) for Federico Fellini's masterpiece AMARCORD, awarded the Oscar for Best Foreign Film in 1973, and also nominated for Best Director and Best Original Screenplay. Often hailed as Federico Fellini's most personal movie despite the director's vehement denial, AMARCORD is arguably one of his most beloved "confessions." Telling the story of life in Rimini from winter to autumn, AMARCORD presents Fellini's own recollections of his upbringing in an Italian town. The episodic story focuses on a mischievous boy named Titta who, in typical Fellini fashion, lusts after big-breasted women, tries to woo the town's most beautiful girl and find his place in Fascist Italyall accompanied by an infectious Nino Rota score. "Almost all of AMARCORD is a macabre dance against a cheerful background," said a contemporary review of the film, and Nino Rota is in peak form providing the music for this mesmerizing dance. By mining the rich musical world of 1920s and 1930s jazz and big band music, Rota fashions a creative, engaging score that is nostalgic for an era that never really existedit only flourishes in the director's memories of his childhood. Almost every film score lover is familiar with the wistful main theme, and this is the first chance to hear exactly how much music Rota actually provided for the film. A 30-minute LP of the soundtrack was released on CAM in 1973 and reissued many times on CD by the same company. For this premiere complete edition, we have included the entire 50-minute score on CD 1. On the second disc we have included more than 30 minutes of previously unreleased music with lots of alternates and music written by Rota that was not used in the final print of the movie, as well as a remastered version of the original album

DEFECTIVE TRACKS - DO NOT BUY
This is an expensive 2CD set. Tracks 16 & 17 on CD 1 on my first purchase were defective and would not play. Amazon exchanged the set for a brand new one. Again, tracks 16 & 17 were unplayable. Obviously a production problem. I contacted Quartet explaining the situation. They deny all knowledge of a defective run of this product and claim that mine is the only complaint they have received. They refused to exchange the CD and blamed the problem on Amazon, claiming Amazon is not an authorized dealer. In my view of things, Amazon is not saint, but they were cooperative and tried to solve a problem that is not really theirs, but is a manufacturing problem that should be addressed by Quartet, especially at the prices they sell their products. So I am warning everyone that this product is defective and you should use caution before dishing out $30 plus dollars on it. As far as Quartet Records is concerned, they earn no points for their customer service. NO COMPREN ESTE PRODUCTO. Bought this album when released, and now wish I still had it. Brilliant jazz interpretations by Bill Frisell, Carla and her band, Debbie Harry and others. Wish they would re-release on CD or MP3.

The evocative score of Fellini's most evocative work
Nino Rota's scores have graced dozens of classic films, but "Amarcord" may be his best. The playful, nostalgic music is so evocative that listening to this CD is like watching the movie with your ears.Throughout the score, genres and textures swirl, collide and dance, aping Fellini's fever-dream images. The title cut swings luxuriously between niteclub-jazz swagger, waves of strings, and wistful strains of traditional accordion. "Lo Struscio" impishly cops musical phrases from "Stormy Weather" and "La Cucaracha." Yet it all sounds organic, and wholly Rota's own.Only drawback -- a very short running time of 29 and a half minutes. I still found it worth full price, but you're lucky enough to have found this import for a really insanely low used price. If you're at all a fan of Fellini's or Rota's, jump on it.

Essential Listening, but hard to find
This is the best of Wilner's compliations. These jazz artists -- the best in the buinsess at the time (unfortunatley Bayard is no longer with us)-- obviously love the music, and the affection and respect are apparent in every track. It's a mixed bag illuminating the different faces of Rota from the jaunty circus themes to the lonliness of lost love. This is truly one of my favorite jazz records and it's also a great anthology of lesser-known great artists.

so happy i found this cd as i had given up ...
so happy i found this cd as i had given up looking for ORIGINAL soundracks by nino rota for fellini, on cd ...... then by chance the other day, i was browsing and started seeing these titles ...... i picked up 'juliet of the spirtis' '8 1/2' 'la dolce vita' as well ..... they are all of the same high quality. the music is simply beautiful, and the prices are normal, not insane ebay BS. enjoy !!!
