Royal Designs, Inc. Vintage Turn Knob Dimmer Lamp Socket for Incandescent LED Bulbs, Polished Nickel, Set of 2

I have purchased 6 of these for various style lamps - 2 wall mounted bedside lamps, 2 table lamps, and 2 floor lamps. The look and feel is top quality. The switch turns smoothly and allows for gradual increase or decrease of current. I suspect the people who complain about the installation are inexperienced. You can't be clumsy, but it doesn't take an expert electrician either. Just use a small screw driver, and be thoughtful.

These are excellent replacements for the usual junk lamp sockets. I purchased them to rewire a couple of antique lamps, and wanted dimmable LED bulbs. They work perfectly.On the minus side, the polarity of the contacts isn't identified, so I had to use a meter to figure out hot vs neutral.And, they're a bit pricey. They aren't a lot more solid vs the usual junk, so I'm not sure the premium price is warranted. But, for the couple lamps I needed to do, tolerable.

the units are hard to install, with incredibly tiny wire channels. The dimming quality is choppy - more of a stutter than a smooth up and down, and middle light ranges are hard to set. Then, one of the dimmer knobs immediately became loose, and had to be glued in place. I requested a replacement or refund, but got no answer.

These dimmer sockets are excellent, and they look and operate well (oil-rubbed bronze). They are well-built and more high-tech than regular old-school light sockets, so the wires need to be cut precisely at 0.25” and inserted/tightened, just as shown in the above video instructions. We bought two and re-fit the lamps on our bedroom nightstands – a nice improvement.

The instruction video is for another style socket . However easy to install if you own a tiny Philips screwdriver. Unscrew bottom, take off both outer metal and inner cardboard casing . On the bottom of housing you will see two tiny holes . This is where the two wires go . Before inserting wires you must unscrew the two screws near but on the side of housing. only strip 1/4 “ at end of wires. When assembling counter turn upper part with knob a couple times so when screw into bottom the wires not overly twisted.

Amazon is the only place I could find a adjustable dimmer that works on LED’s. 3 way dimmers don’t work. I bought 2 and liked it so we’ll IBought 4 more and converted all my lamps

These look just like the $50 sockets but weigh 1/10 as much so they use very thin brass. They work fine, they are just cheaply made.

Extremely good quality! I was shocked that anything of this high quality was still being manufactured in 2020! It was slightly difficult to wire due to space constraints in the fixture.Works and fits perfectly in my old lamp fixture. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, without hesitation.
