Avoid if you are a normal peron
The bracket itself is very sturdy. Quality control isnt up to standard as I ordered two but they were not interchangeable with the shelves. The bars that go into the shelves were spaced differently on each bracket and not 100% square either. Unless you have a garage full of tools then avoid. You will need one size drill bit for the screws to the wall and another for the support bars in the wall. In my case I also needed wood drill bits to drill into the shelf and these need to be square. My shelf then required a router to cut out the back of the shelf so that the bar itself could not be seen and then holes drilled to countersink/hide the screw heads that hold the shelf to the wall. Believe me, my shelves look very good BUT very costly if you do not already own all the tools required. Do yourself a favour and buy something else.

Avoid - poorly executed design and very time consuming product to fit.
I bought four of these for hanging shelves of ash. None of them were well engineered in the sense that the rods that enter the wood were not all at true right angles to the base plate to which they were attached and each item was different from the other. One of the items arrived poorly packed and bent and had to be returned. This had serious consequences for the drilling of the holes and the routing of the space for the baseplate which could not be done accurately off design. Each base plate needed the wood to be very carefully and differently drilled out - with different sized drills - and routed and tailored for each plank. This was very time consuming and not at all what I expected. A good idea for a strong support but poorly executed. I would not buy this product again.

Looks the part, but serious design flaws
I can't strongly recommend this item, at least not for fixing to a stud wall. Although the bracket is constructed from thick steel and feels very heavy duty, it has some design flaws which limit it's usefulness.First, the rods on the back of the bracket that go into the wall provide little to no extra strength to the shelf and only really function to make it difficult to adjust placement. I found they got in the way more than anything else.Second, the screw holes for fixing the bracket to the wall are all located in a straight line in the centre of the steel band that goes against the wall. This means that the whole bracket can easily pivot along this axis, giving you a very wobbly shelf, even when screwed in tight. I got around this by drilling additional holes in the bracket to form a zigzag pattern (see picture) and this sorted the problem, but you need a decent drill to do this and a product shouldn't need this much modification to work properly.

Solid bracket
Bought this to put up a heavy wooden shelf on the chimney breast so I needed something strong and solid. A quick tap on the bracket and you can tell it's made of sturdy metal. With 3 bars drilled into the shelf held in with no nails and 2 bars and 6 screws attaching the bracket to the wall. I am fairly certain should the house collapse then the bracket would still be attached to the chimney breast. Even though it's fairly self explanatory to fit, some fitting instructions to advise the drill bit size to use would of been helpful.

Robust and effective
This product really solved a mantelpiece issue for us, when our first ‘floating shelf’ fixings were a fail. Delivery was impressively fast (ordered Friday afternoon, arrived early on Saturday in the week before Christmas). The bracket is robust, and the mantelpiece is now fitted, with the minimum of fuss, looking very festive in place.
