Q: is the rubber hard enough to resist punctures frm pointed objects like hedge thorns?

Small thorns are not an issue. 1+” thorns are a problem.

Q: are they safety toe or soft?

Soft toe. The tongue is very rough and under combat situations and ruck marches rubs blisters.

Q: Do you have boots with the open cleats for the top of the boot for the boot string

These boots don’t have open hooks/cleats at the top for the boot string. I wish they did, but the closed metal loops are easy to lace, and I even have hand problems. I just unlace the top two pairs when I take them off so it’s quicker when I put them back on. Most tactical boots don’t have open hooks due to the risk of getting snagged.
