Excellent sharpener, priced just right!
This pencil sharpener certainly lives up to the X-Acto name!!! It sharpens even the thickest (Ticonderoga's "My First" pencils) with ease, and what I also liked about the degree of sharp-ness was that there was very little waste of the wood, making pencils last longer. This matters when you are using specialty drawing pencils. My only concern was with the screws provided for mounting, they seemed rather small for withstanding the use of a sharpener. I used drywall screws, and they secured the sharpener to the board I used just fine. Very quiet, haven't had any jamming issues. The holes for the pencils accommodate a very wide selections of pencils, so I am very happy with this purchase.

It lasted 6 years and ordering the same one again.
I bought this product in 2020. It worked great better than any electric. It finally quit sharpening evenly think the blades have worn down. We homeschool and sharpened countless pencils so we got our money worth. I’m ordering another it lasted 6 years!

Works on oval or triangular carpenter pencils
I would have given a 5 star review, but the mounting is a little difficult. Other than that, this thing is amazing. I use big, triangular or oval pencils for construction. This can actually sharpen them. As I said, the mounting sucked. The screws aren't good and the holes are so close to the base. We used drywall screws since the shank is a number 6 and a long extension bit. Anyway, it doesn't break the lead, leaves a nice point and requires minimum effort.

Similar to what I remember from school
This is probably the most reliable and consistent way to sharpen a pencil. I mounted it in the garage and it cleanly sharpens pencils. I previously tried small plastic handheld sharpeners, but the graphite kept breaking; I wondered if it was an issue with the quality of the pencil, but I didn't have that problem sharpening the same pencils with the X-ACTO sharpener.

Great shaperner!
If you need a good pencil sharpener, this is the one to buy. Made strong and should last. Very pleased with the quality and it will probably outlast me. Have a blessed day.

Hard to use without fastening to a table
The quality seems good, but it's very hard to use without fastening it to a table, and it has to be screwed into the table (making holes in the table).

Works very well once you get it mounted to a wall or desk and so long as you use it thoughtfully
A real boon to anyone who loves drawing. Works well with a variety of pencils but not with charcoal or very soft pastel pencils. The Faber Castell and Carbothello pastel pencils can be sharpened easily as they are relatively hard. The Conte pastel pencils however will tend to break as the leads are too soft. It also sharpens coloured pencils, graphite pencils and watercolour pencils. The odd colour will tend to break off eg some cobalt blues tend to be brittle. If a lead breaks off the sharpener won't work properly and you'll need to disassemble it with a screwdriver (a Phillips head screwdriver) which only takes a second, then get the broken lead out by tapping the barrel against a hard surface. The barrel and helical blades need a bit of a clean every now and again with a stiff brush anyway. All in all, well worth having and very good value.

Easily stripped and broken screws - diappointed purchase
I remember that back in the 1970's how strong, durable and easy to sharpen to a long, tapered point this X-Acto sharpener was. Now with grandkids going to school and always needing to sharpen, I decided to invest the money in a "quality" sharpener. How times have changed! The metal is flimsy and easily bendable. I am guessing that if I need to change the pencil hole diameter often, it will not last very long. Trying to secure the base, the screwhead stripped on one. Another screw broke off at the head. I will need to buy new screws and will have a difficult time getting the stripped and broken screw out. Be sure to pre-drill holes for less aggravation, although you will still have problems. I am disappointed in my purchase.
