Miss Mingo and the Fire Drill

I wanted to use this to explain about fire drills to my students. Cute book, but as a teacher I feel like the story is too drawn-out, and with too much distracting, unnecessary information like the snippets about each animal. Its too many pages before Miss Mingo introduces what a fire drill actually is and how to act during one, and too many pages before the students actually line up and go through the practice of one. So lots of time for disconnect. Don't get me wrong, it's a fun & silly story which makes kids laugh, but my kiddos missed the point about fire drills on the first read. So I only read the relevant pages the second time and it worked better.

Cute fun educational story

I had to start summarizing this book for my kindergarten class because it was way too long and wordy. I was getting them ready for our first fire drill, but many of them were losing interest because of the length. Definitely read this through before reading it to your class.

I bought thus to teach my pre-schoolers about fire drills but it is American and not suitable for uk schools. Very good book though!
