Hard to fully install. Design flaw.
The design is just poor to start with. The rubber wears out about 5 to 7 years. This is the 3rd one I replaced. Also you need to screw it completely in for the diverter to work otherwise the shower does not stay on. But it is really hard to fully screw in. You’ll need to get a flat metal bar that is 1-1/8” wide to slip into the ridges so that you can get leverage to really screw it tight.

Worked great to fix my spout.
This worked fine for repairing my American Standard 8888.022.002 diverter spout which had failed due to the deterioration of the rubber gaskets. I'd like to point out to those reviewers who complained of the short life of these diverters that the American Standard diverter spout (at least the one I got) came with a lifetime warranty and this failure is covered. I contacted the American Standard warranty phone number (1-800-442-1902) and they are sending me this repair kit. They wanted my receipt but I explained that this was installed by a contractor as part of our bathroom remodel and they accepted that. Note that this warranty only applies to the original owner. My first one lasted for 4 years before failing. I've installed this repair kit and we'll see how long it lasts but I'll have the spare kit that American Standard is now sending me. I also plan to get the detailed dimensions of the 2 rubber gaskets (the fiber gasket is not wearing out) to see if I can find suitable replacements for them at Home Depot, Lowes or OSH.

Worked great for my tub faucet
This kit fixed my worn out silicone gaskets in my tub faucet. I only need the gaskets not the hardware, I wish I could have only ordered just the gasket. Contacted American Standard to get this product under their lifetime warranty, but they sent me the wrong product twice, so I finally ordered it here on Amazon.

Didn't work.
I bought 2 of these attempting to stop my tub spout from leaking (and making a horrible resonant noise when showering). First off, my original unit had an integrated seal/washer that isn't present on the replacement. Despite cleaning/polishing the sealing surfaces of the spout, neither replacement worked.

Shower head flow restrictor may shorten diverter life
I think I've discovered something interesting.... I think the replacement blue rubber washer (my replacement was actually black) will wear out faster if your shower head has a flow restrictor. Here's why I say this: I installed & tried the new diverter mechanism with and without the flow restrictor in the shower head, and with the flow restrictor in place I had to use much more force to pull up on the silver ball to get the shower to work. Without the flow restrictor, it took very little effort to pull the ball up and activate the diverter. My guess is that the flow restrictor puts a lot of back pressure on the diverter and doesn't allow it to engage as designed. If you want to keep using a flow restrictor shower head, my suggestion is to turn the water on less strongly (if you have a shower valve that lets you vary the flow), and you'll put less back pressure onto the diverter and it'll be much easier to pull up the silver ball to activate the diverter. Try it!

These are awesome! I was sure I was going to need to replace the whole spigot when it failed. After quite a bit of searching I found this (it wasn't easy) but super easy install.Unscrew White thing (I just jammed a needle nose in it and turned, it broke and then came out, no big deal)Push chrome ball/stick up and use needle nose to hold lower part and unscrewRemove it all including the 2 washers.Put washers back in, same order the were on when it came to you in spigot while laying on back in tubPut in black part, screw on ball handleScrew in White partEasy! Takes 5 minutes and works good as new in a very expensive American Standard faucet set!

it works fine -- and is definitely a huge improvement over the ...
Three stars -- 1 star for ease of installation and 5 stars for the product itself. But for the reviews here I would have had no idea how to install it. Once in, it works fine -- and is definitely a huge improvement over the worn out one where and least 1/2 of the shower water ran out the bath spout. This is how we installed it. The big problem is removing the existing diverter. First, I removed the spout from the wall (unscrewed, after I loosened it with a wrench). Next I unscrewed the ball on top of the spout. It is actually not just the ball but the entire chrome ball and shaft sitting on top of plunger. I was able to do that by holding the little metal end piece at the opposite end of the plunger with a pliers. The large white plastic ring is then supposed to unscrew. Well, we had had that spout for over 12 years, so it was frozen in place by hard water deposits. I soaked the end of the spout in vinegar for about an hour. I also inserted a knife around the edges trying to loosen it, like a cake pan. None of that worked. Then my husband came home from work and took the spout, turned it upside down, got on the floor and held it between his knees in a towel, took a hammer and screwdriver and inserted the screwdriver into one of the slots in the white plastic ring and tapped (lefty-loosey) until it loosened. Voila! We then unscrewed it. Install the new one by screwing the new white ring back in then replacing the ball top, then put the spout back onto the wall. You may have to adjust and screw the white ring in tighter if the diverter doesn't move all of the water to the shower. I looked everywhere online for instructions on how to do this and these user reviews on Amazon were the only information out there! Knowing how it works now, maybe I could do it from underneath while the spout was still attached to the wall, although it would review lying underneath it.

Works perfect
Had to fix the spout for the bathtub and this was the perfect fit although I have the fixture in gold tone and they didn’t have choses in colors so this worked fine with my gold topper puller to replace the part
