Must do for Avid Elixer brakes bleed
If you do some research you will find all kinds of bleeding and performance issues with Avid Elixir brakes. I have come to the conclusion that any time you bleed Avid calipers you have to redo the seals to get that new feeling. I tried to bleed and fill so many times with lackluster results. Could be the rubber they use simply doesn't last or something, not sure. However every time I cleaned up the calipers both inside and out with break cleaner and replaced the seals I get perfect brakes again without fail!So you have two options IMO: buy new brakes that use mineral oil or stock up on these kits.Hope it works for you

Requires a air compressor with a HUGE amount of PSI.
I'm a diesel mechanic I work on things everyday at work. Hydraulics are something I deal with on a regular basis. I figured swapping these out would be a easy though a moderately technical adventure. So I ordered them and set them aside with my leaky brakes waited till I had a friend over whom had the same brake set. Perhaps I could teach my friend thru my rebuild in the case he needed to rebuild his in the future. So we sat down one night and went for it... I got the small air compressor from the garage and brought it into the basement shop. I figured the reviews here stated some guy mentioned the possibility of doing it with a bike pump how bad can it be. The AVID manual makes it sound so easy. Face the caliper piston down to a rag in one hand use compressed air to unseat the piston. Well we shot 70 PSI... nope waited for it to charge some more. 90psi nope... At this point we were really struggling to hold the blow gun against the caliper and not have any leaks. So we decide the little air compressor was no longer going to pull it off. I run the air hose from my 125 psi unit in the garage. I think this time the piston will move for sure. I pin it up against the basement wall put my whole weight into the rubber tip of the blow gun. Pull the trigger, no leaks at all no movement of the piston at all. Friend decided he would try with pliers while I was off taking a leak, despite me knowing full well that it would crack with all the warnings on this site. He wound up chipping the piston. The kit looks quality as its OEM but man its really bad to install. I'm still left brainstorming ideas of how to remove the piston. I ended up getting thru the riding season this winter its going down. Almost need hydraulic pressure air compresses.

Worked great!
Worked like a charm! Brakes are like new with new seals. You can find good directions online to walk you through the process. Just ordered another one for my rear brakes of my Avid Elixir R brakes. It's a bit of a pain, but cheaper than buying new brakes or taking it to the bike shop!

Could use 1 more O-Ring
Great little kit. My only complaint is that it should have had a replacement O-ring for both bleed port screws. Those O-rings get worn every time you bleed the brakes and they are so tiny that they aren't available many places.I had no issues getting the pistons out. I just pumped the brake lever until they almost popped out themselves. If one extends more than the other press it back in until they are both almost out then keep pumping until one pops out. The second one was extended enough that I could pull it out with my fingers after I split the caliper.

All seals needed for a rebuild
Everything that I needed to rebuild the brake caliper was in the package. So far I have not had any leaks or caliper issues. My only regret is that I didn’t rebuild the caliper lever as well. My avid brakes have been slowly deteriorating in performance and I might just replace them entirely for some shimanos.

Rien à redire
Convient parfaitement pour des freins avid elixir 1 cependant bien faire attention à faire sortir les deux pistons avant démontage.
