I have read this book in other formats over the years and am now happy to have it on my Kindle reader. It describes method acting in very simple terms because that is the thing about method acting—it is simple; one need only take the time to do it. I was recently using the lessons from the book to help prisoners with scenes from Julius Caesar. The results were magical; following each scene the men watching jumped to there feet yelling, "Bravo, bravo."

I didn't study method acting, I only read about it. What it turns out to be isn't magical, it's... Methodical.Method acting turns out to be a mental training program for actors in the very same way, making use of the very same tools, that athletes nowadays use for their mental training. It includes basic notes on meditation, visualization, different boundaries in terms of your reference frame.As an accompanying book, you might actually want to get a mental training program like "The Gold Medal Mental Workout" by Dariusz Nowicky. This book will show you how to use it to your advantage in terms of acting.

"On Method Acting" was the first book out of dozens I bought that actually still held in the four cornerstones of this approach as developed by Stanislovski and Strasberg. Those being observation, focus, sense memory, affective memory and intense concentration holding the corners together. The true Method simply is not the method without these four cornerstones which sometimes takes years to master. For the money, this small book gives the novice a good sound understanding of this unorthodox approach. How many people gain 55 pounds for one scene. How many file their own teeth down rather than wear false ones and how many can be in character 24/7 from the conception of the films beginnings to it's final days in post. Method actors are the REAL actors! This book follows around the roots of the "Methods" first attempt moving from stage to screen and gives a little insight into the insanity that it truly takes to be a "Method."A very good book for a very nice price.

this book explains method acting in a clear, easy, and concise manner. it takes the reader through all the important aspects of the method as well as giving well defined exercises to practice on your own. the stories about marilyn monroe and james dean are by themselves worth the purchase of this book. two thumbs up!!!!

If you want to understand what Method Acting really is, this is the book. It both explains the concepts of the Method and gives you exercises to learn the technique. It was recommended to me by a teacher who taught acting alongside Lee Strasberg.

I needed this book for my theatre class. It was good!

De plus, cet e-book a suffisamment de "biscuits" pour préparer au métier d'acteur de théâtre et/ou de cinéma.
