I've used it with a brush and with the sponge, using a little or a lot, and it works with even a thin application. A thicker application helps conceal larger pores, but you use it up faster, too. Wish it wasn't quite so expensive, which is what prompted me to experiment with using a lighter application--to make it last as long as possible.
