Reconsider travel case
We have used Oral B electric toothbrushes for very many years and have been very happy with their cleaning ability and ease of use. Our last one was finally on its last legs so we upgraded to this model. It is WAY more powerful than our previous one so has taken time to get used to. Also, we thought the travel case was a nice idea - as we travel (or used to pre CoVid). However, after getting we realized it might not be worth the extra money. We still have to pack the power cord - just not the little round charging unit. That is all you save in packing space. I was hoping we could add our toothpaste or floss into the travel case but cannot do. In retrospect, I would not get the version with travel case and just carry the toothbrush base and charging cube separately, I could pack them around other items in my suitcase. Yes, there is an additional USB port to charge my iPhone, etc but I already pack those items. For us, packing the toothbrush handle, the toothbrushes, the power cord and small charging stand are easier to pack. Would have save us $50 or so. But, the toothbrush itself is great and I would recommend it to anyone. I can't speak to the bluetooth connectivity or their program as we do not use it.

Literally recommended by my dentist and I love it
I have had many electric toothbrushes in my life, but the Oral B Genius has some key features that puts it in a league of its own. There is a two-minute timer, and it also alerts the user at 1/4 intervals, in case you are brushing in four quadrants. The best feature is a red light when you are brushing too hard. And if you really want a gold star from your dentist, you can connect to an app on your smart phone which assesses the quality of your brushing and points out areas where you may need more focused effort. The battery recharges overnight and then stays charged for a solid week. There are many other features, too, like different speeds and settings if you want some variety, plus different brush heads. There is nothing I do not like about this toothbrush.

Don't waste your money, it's a nice idea but...
I've been holding off writing this review to see if Braun/Oral B were going to do the right thing and ensure I received the product I paid for. They never did.To make a long story short, the Position Detection feature kept this brush in the repair shop more times than in my bathroom. It worked great for a few months, but then the Position Detection would stop working. When you brush, there is a "map" of your teeth and the brushing progress would show up as you go. However after a few months this feature stopped working entirely.Customer Service (CS) would blame it on my iPhone, so I tried other phones, loaded the Oral B app and it still didn't work. CS then blamed the app developer. So my wife bought exactly the same brush and it worked fine on my phone and hers. At this point CS had to surmise it was a defective brush (duh) and authorized a replacement.Over the course of 2 years (the warranty period) I sent it in 5 times. Given the shipping and bench time, I probably lost another 6 months so only got 1.5 years of actual use. Once the clock struck 2 years and the warranty ran out, CS refused to authorize any further replacement. At that point I asked what is the expected life for this brush and they said 3-5 years. But I only got 1.5 years, what gives? Now they're back blaming the app developer again with promises that the next version will work. It hasn't happened. Save yourself some money and headache and avoid this model if you want Position Detection. I ended up buying a lower version that has a slight different way to do PD, but it works fine and at a fraction of the cost. Good luck and happy brushing.

Genius X - Upgrade Or Not?
Since there seem to be a variety of Oral B products reviewed here, I'll specify that this is a review of the Genius X model of Oral B's electric toothbrush lineup. Compared to the previous versions of this brush, the most positive thing to be said about the upgrade seems to be improved connectivity, a fatal flaw of almost all previous versions of this brush when connecting to the Oral B app, which randomly and continuously disconnected. So far, Bluetooth connectivity has been around 75%, an improvement over the frequent dropouts of earlier models, but still not great. A plus, but faint praise. A not-so-plus, if you have used earlier models with Oral B's app, you'll immediately notice that the timer has disappeared, along with the haptic brush handle feedback for 20 second increments, alerting you to change. You now have only the "AI" view in the app, which depends somewhat, apparently, on Oral B's historically less than stellar position recognition. It will now generally recognize which sextant or quadrant you are brushing, but not always, and will usually recognize whether you are brushing the upper or lower arch, but not always. And I always end up with duplicated sessions that, fortunately, I can still delete. I'll grant you it's Artificial. Intelligent it absolutely is not. The timer was a simple timer, requiring nothing more than starting it, and worked without the wonky accelerometer/camera for handle orientation. You may also miss the scrolling news and weather in the app with this model (me, not so much), but one star off for missing features available in the previous app, and adding nothing new.Another minus (and ironically also a plus), is the LARGE wall plug associated with the charger. Minus because it will take up more than it's share of real estate on your bathroom outlet, and plus because it is a universal voltage transformer if you travel outside the US. I would have preferred a smaller plug and my own transformer, but there it is. Another plus, mentioned elsewhere, is that Oral B is now producing black brush heads for their black handled version of this brush (just not with the automatic reorder option). Sonicare had that figured out about 5 years ago. As others noted, you also don't get the storage base for brush heads - just the charger - and the charger won't fit in the old storage base if you have one. Another minus is there is no option to keep track and remind you of future dental appointments in your calendar, a positive feature of Sonicare's app (which otherwise has plenty of minuses of its own), but to be fair the Oral B app never had this capability. Warts and all, a very modest improvement over previous models in connectivity, a significant reduction in app functionality, an improvement in portability with a built-in multi-voltage plug, and missing some items included with the previous version (brush storage). Overall, probably a wash or an actual downgrade, and if you have the most recent brush, unless you travel extensively I'd skip this one. With future upgrades to the app (as of this writing v7.3.0), some of the minuses may disappear. Or not. Good brush, and has always been - 4 stars - but essentially awful app (which is the whole point of a "connected" brush), and it has not improved with age. Brush, recommended. App, not.
