The Eloquent Screen: A Rhetoric of Film Paperback – July 23, 2019

The Eloquent Screen by Gilberto Perez is a free NetGalley ebook that I read in late July.The philosophy within a film's monologues and dialogues, recurrent themes and tropes, usage of heroes and villains, happy/bittersweet/tragic endings, symbolism, realism of war and combat onscreen, and actual filmmaking (i.e. use of editing, vertical split-screens, impossible angles, and perspectives to make a cinematic impression). It goes in about neck-deep (with my particular preference being western films), so it’s not completely overwhelming, but you do have to pore over things a fair amount to get the greater point.

In these horrible days of struggle against the tic toc generation dancing thru the public streets and throwing off essential history of the moving image, the real resistence by people who love film "the cinema" can only be done thru writing and reading----this book is one of those stonesIn the cinemathque of knowledge
