Beautiful and very versatile Dutch Oven for slow cooking
Dutch Ovens differ from the average pots and pans in your kitchen, they are very versatile in terms of what you can cook with them and they offer a superior cooking ability. The primary reason to buy a Dutch Oven for me is it's excellence in slow cooking. This Dutch Oven is bulky and heavy, the cast iron is thick and dense so it allows for excessive heat retention and absorption, which is gradually released over the cooking period and through heat distribution. Making it ideal for slow cooking and things like stews, braises and chili's where it can steam the food really well and retain the moisture and flavour in the food, this is handy when cooking thick cuts of meat. It's also very versatile, you can cook stews, pastas, whole chickens and believe it or not, BREAD. Dutch Ovens are perfectly suited for cooking bread, as it needs moisture, heat and dryness, I tried the other day and the bread cooked wonderfully but it stuck to the bottom of the pot, so I will use a wax sheet next time.As mentioned, this oven is very heavy. It requires careful handling not just because it is brittle and easily broken, but because of it's heat properties. Like other materials which are great at heat conduction, they can shatter or break due to rapid shifts in temperature. So you should let this oven heat up slowly at first on a low flame. When you're done cooking, let it cool down for about 15 - 30 minutes to ensure most of the heat has escaped and that the temperature will not be too high for cold water. The oven itself looks beautiful with its enamel coating and yellow interior, it just looks pleasant to use and even on display. The outside is pitch black and almost matte. It's comfortable to handle and move around, the handles do get hot during cooking though so use oven gloves.Overall 5/5 and a must have for any kitchen, a dutch oven is an essential in your arsenal if you want to play serious in the kitchen department xD. Happy cooking.

VERY expensive for a casserole dish, though well made but came with scratches and marks on it
This is a very heavy solid cast iron casserole / oven dish, and therefore once full is not for weak people, with wrist or arm problems, or frail people. It was bigger than expected, although I measured it and it is definitely 24cm.I really like the black colour. HOWEVER for the price of it and it is VERY, very expensive I'd expect it to be absolutely perfect condition. As it was this has a small pit on the inside of the coating and the gold handle has 2 very small gouges on it.As good looking and robust as it is though (and great that it can be used on top of the stove or in the oven etc) I personally wouldn't buy it as it's too expensive for a casserole dish, too heavy and there are plenty of others for a fraction of the price that work the same.So If you don't mind the price, and you like the weight and you can get a perfect one then you'll be happy.

Very hot and heavy to use
(A Dutch Oven is a heavy, lidded casserole dish.)This is a lovely Dutch Oven, but it’s not practical to use. It’s more lifestyle statement cookware than kitchen helper. It’s a multi-purpose cooking pot. You can use it on the hob or in a gas or electric oven. You can fry in it, boil or braise. It gives good results as a slow cooker. But it’s hard work to use.The oven is exceptionally heavy and hot to handle. You need strong arms and very thick oven gloves to handle it safely. The advert said the handles are heatproof, I’d say they’re heatproof in terms of not being damaged by heat, but they’re far too hot to hold. Food sticks to it and burns very easily. I’m plucking up the courage to try jam making in it, but its high risk I’ll end up with a ruined oven and wasted fruit. The 4.2 litre capacity isn’t large. It’s enough to make two hearty portions of casserole with a little left over.I don’t have a dishwasher, but washing the oven by hand is hard work. The enamel scratches easily, so the oven needs repeated light scrubs with gentle sponges. For me, the real success of this oven is the lid. It’s a perfect, heavy fit, domed with space for the steam to move around. This gives a lovely result for cooking any dish with a high fat content. It makes exceptional dumplings! If you want the Instagram moment of presenting a perfect casserole, this Dutch Oven is a lovely way to do that. But for value for money and ease of use, you’d be better off with a non-stick frying pan and large, lidded saucepan.

Stunningly beautiful item
This is a stunning piece of cookware that is almost too nice to use - but use it you will because it's fantastic! It looks great - a striking black colour with a gold top. It's very heavy which is great and the enamelled coating make it great for cooking casseroles and washing the pot afterwards.

Beautifully made dish for stove top and oven
Beautifully crafted cast iron casserole that works on a gas stove top and also in a gas oven. It is so convenient to use, I made a beef stew on the stove and then popped in a low light in the oven. The resulting meal was beautifully cooked and moist.Using such a heavy and solid dish makes me feel like a proper cook, and ever so slightly French....

Dutch oven
This is a high quality casserole dish. Unlike the electric slow cookers this looks okay just sitting on our hob all day as it blends in well with everything else. It's a heavy, sturdy item and very well made. Also easy to clean and so far we've cooked one stew in it and it was awesome. Great product.
