Faith in the Face of Apostasy: The Gospel According to Elijah & Elisha (Gospel According to the Old Testament)

In my local church I am teaching a class on Elijah and Elisha this book has been instrumental in helping me prepare for my class. It is broken down into easy to digest sections that make a lot of sense. I really like the reflection questions at the end of each chapter. It’s was also nice that I can cut and paste from the Kindle version into my notes.

I read this book and it really stirred me to learn more about Elijah. Because I can only keep books that I will read twice (due to book shelf space), I gave it to a pastor friend. After just reading some of it, he said that "the book will preach." In other words, things brought out in this book can be used in a sermon.You will enjoy reading this book.

The late Dr. Dillard was professor of Old Testament at Westminster Theological Seminary. This is concise, sharp exegesis of these narratives from I and II Kings. Don't expect exhaustive verse-by-verse technical commentary. Dillard is interested in grasping the big message of each text, interpreting it theologically, relating it to Christ and applying it practically. His applications are often biting, striking for the heart.Along with Dale Ralph Davis, this was the most helpful I found in my studies of Elijah and Elisha.

The book makes reading Old Testament scripture such a pleasure for lay people. Bible study groups should invest in a book such as this in order to maximize Old Testament revelation. I wish it was thicker, nonetheless the material goes straight to the point.

If you are interested in have the gospel presented from the life of Elijah and Elisha, you need to search no further. I didn't know till later that this is only part of an entire set of Gospel from OT texts, people, events, etc. Amen and Amen

this book is a little bit different than what i thought but it has turned out to be more helpful and inspirational than i thought.it has hit home and helped me open up my spiritual eyes.
