Wood Engraving and Linocutting Hardcover – May 13, 2008

Another addition to my art shelf. This was very helpful and not too overwhelming on my first try at carving wood for a global art project. Recommended it to other friends too. Beautifully illustrated and gave me confidence to reach a little further out of my comfort zone.

There are not many contemporary books that cover these two printmaking processes. This is a well written and well illustrated book that covers both methods fairly thoroughly. I appreciated the author's first hand experience with these methods and clear explanation of each from concept to final print.

Glossy book, covers the information, but perhaps a little more on techniques of wood cutting and lino cutting, might be beneficial in the next edition.

Clearly illustrated both with 'how to' and examples of the genre through history. It is comprehensive both for the beginner and the more advanced artist and deserves a place in an art library.

This is a good book, interesting, pleasant to read, well-illustrated - but it's primarily a wood engraving book. It does address linocuts, but the bulk of the technique, text, and illustration is about wood engraving. I gave it 4 stars because what I was shopping for was a linocut book, and the title does suggest that this would be such a thing. If what you want is a wood engraving book, I recommend it, it's lovely.

Bought this for my mum for Christmas. She's just got into doing Linocutting and printing (in fact made a Christmas card using this technique) and I was looking for some books to give her inspiration. There weren't many available on Amazon but this one seemed to be OK with good reviews. All I can say here is that she was very excited on opening the present. Christmas Day evening (!!!) she was looking through it already and her mouth was watering with the idea of the next project.

I bought this book because I was looking for more information about linocutting. From the title I expected quite a bit on the subject, but there was only one short chapter. However, much of the material was relevant to the subject, even if it didn't say so. BUT - the illustrations are wonderful, ad it gave me lots of inspiration and information. It is well presented and beautifully illustrated, and the text is easy to read and understand. I find I keep looking at it and will enjoy it for a long time to come.
