The American Heritage Picture Dictionary 1st Edition

Disappointed in this dictionary. Not enough words that 4 & 5 yr-olds need to help with reading and reading workbooks.

It is a beautiful dictionary, and I am so happy I got it for my kids, ages 2 and 4. The boys loves it. The pictures and illustrations are clean, clear and beautiful. The font is a decent size, so we can all read it comfortably. The definitions and usage are age appropriate. I haven't seen anything inappropriate or out of line. This is a great tool for me as I work with my children on building their vocabulary and language skills.

This dictionary is used for Kindergarten in our school district. They issued 20 dictionaries and then increased our class size! So I ordered some through Amazon! What a fantastic deal that was! I ordered wherever I could get them, and the biggest cost was the shipping! (Granted, they aren't offered through Prime much). A good deal all around to get several new dictionaries at a minimal cost. They are well illustrated and are sturdy construction. Awesome!

This was my son's favorite book. We took it everywhere we went. I started going through it with him, page by page, when he was about a year old. By the time he was 18 months old, he had it memorized and of course had his favorite pictures. I made up silly stories about some of the pictures, which he found hilarious. It's a great teaching tool. My son is now 18, but I have so many wonderful memories of the times we spent together reading it! I'm buying it for my friend who is adopting a toddler from China. The child speaks no English so I'm sure it will be enormously helpful to her.

I purchased this dictionary for my daughter for her birthday. She enjoys looking at the pictures and copying the words down to practice her writing. highly recommend this dictionary. In fact, the preschool where I work had a copy of this and after I looked through it, I went home and ordered a copy!

I use picture dictionaries with a game series called scribblenauts to make learning language fun for small children. It acts as a gateway that encourages kids to learn while having fun.

This book is great for my 3 year old who is learning to read.
