The Marketing Edge for Filmmakers: Developing a Marketing Mindset from Concept to Release: Developing a Marketing Mindset from Concept to Release (American Film Market Presents)

Amazing Textbook for Students. Not Written for Practicing Filmmakers.
This is one of the absolute best textbooks available for advanced undergraduate or graduate film students. It provides a terrific in-depth overview of the role of marketing (and the various marketing activities) within the filmed entertainment industry and filmmaking process. However, despite its title, the book is not really meant for practicing filmmakers... at least on its own. The book lacks specific instructions and templates that practicing filmmakers would require to perform and create the marketing activities and materials discussed within the book. However, when combined with Robert Barnwell's terrific book, "Guerrilla Film Marketing: The Ultimate Guide to the Branding, Marketing and Promotion of Independent Films & Filmmakers", "The Marketing Edge..." takes on a whole new perspective and value.

Print is SOOoo small
While excited to read this entire book cover to cover, the physical PRINT version type is too small to read. FONT size must be like an 8 or smaller. I can't believe it's that small. Have to return and get the digital version.

Kindle version almost unreadable in parts.
The information is decent, at least as a starter, but the Kindle version is riddled with grammatical errors. At one point in the book there was an error every few words, and many of the mistakes required several re-readings of the sentence in order to get the point being made. For the price - and why is it the same as the physical copy? - this is unacceptable.

Excellent for Overview and Survey of Film Marketing and Distro
This is definitely set up to be a textbook for film marketing classes, and as someone who actually worked in film marketing for a studio, worked several film markets, and have my own projects as an independent producer, the information in here is spot on. It references the actual experts currently working with all the major studios, so as producers looking to take their work to the next level, this is an invaluable resource. I wish I had this book in my graduate film school program and have been recommending it to my producing peers. As another reviewer noted, there are no templates, but if you view this book as a firm foundation in the fundamentals of film marketing (very different than marketing for consumer packaged goods or professional services), it's definitely worth the purchase and read.
