CoastFL78R 530 Lumen Rechargeable Tri-Color LED Headlamp with Twist Focus

It's rare to find a product so packed with features that add value and convenience to the end user. This is based on out-of-the-box perceptions. I haven't put it to a hard test yet. A 4 night camp-out next week will show if it lives up to expectations. I'll edit this review if it doesn't live up.I'm most impressed with the flexibility and power. First it comes with rechargeable lithium ion batteries. The supplied battery pack can be charged in or out of the headlamp. There's a charging port on the lamp and another on the pack. So if you run it down you can charge the pack while operating the lamp on backup batteries. And this is the beauty, it's designed to also operate on standard AAA batteries. And it comes with high quality Duracell* alkaline batteries as a backup. This is invaluable to back packers as with current technology the best backup per weight is still extra batteries instead of some charging system.But there's more. It comes with a USB charger and BOTH AC and car lighter power adapters! So charge it anywhere. And it uses the same standard USB cable that my Android devices use, not something proprietary. Big kudos for that.Now down to the light itself. It's bright! 530 lumens. Plus 2 power saving lower settings. The highest setting is very bright in my living room in daylight on a bright sunny day. I think it would be blinding for close work but great for cycling. On top of that it has red LED's for night time and conserving your dark adaption. As an amateur astronomer that's very important to me.Now about the mechanical properties of the unit. It's solid. The switches seem just as solid as the 2 previous Coast headlamps I've own. The strap stays adjusted. The tilt works well and clicks firmly into the various positions. The battery door is easily accessible and well-built like the rest of the unit. The focusing knob is smooth and steady.Overall the unit just screams 'Premium' in every way. Yeah, it's expensive. But you know what they say, cry once. I will be buying more of these as gifts for friends and family.

The media could not be loaded.  This headlamp is great. I like that you can twist the lens and make it a direct beam or cover a big area. The headlamp is not heavy at all in my opinion and it is pretty lightweight. Great for backpacking or just camping. The 3 brightness settings are good and very bright. However, if you have it on the brightest setting for multiple hours at a time you can see that it starts to dim up. I like that it comes with a rechargeable battery and an option to use AAA batteries. I just got back from my first trip with it and I went to put AAA batteries in it and one of the slots for a battery was not holding the battery tight in place and when i would close the cover for it the battery would wobble around in it and I couldn’t turn on the light. I believe this is because one of the prongs that holds the battery in got pressed in too much. I’m returning this one hoping that it is a one time defect. I love the headlamp and will just be replacing it for a new one!

As a mechanic, I use a lot of personal headlamps, and this one from coast is far better than the ones they’ve had in the past. The band is breathable and rubber so you don’t have to worry about nasty cloth that you have to pull apart and wash. It’s easy to wipe off the light is extremely bright in spotlight mode.. regular AA batteries are OK but it dims overtime and makes the light in effective. Rechargeable batteries however, a lot longer provide a constant bright light and don’t begin to until the end of life.

These coast headlamps are amazing. I’m a contractor that works outside at night on a regular basis. This light in particular is great because it has a focus ring on the light.I own 2 of these coast headlamps because they’re so good. They definitely munch through batteries but that’s to be expected because they’re very very bright.On low you’ll get a handful of hours but on full you’ll get maybe 2 or 3 hours before it’s too dim to use.

Good headlamp - super bright on high. Easily rechargeable. Focused beam is handy. Only downsides are it’s not protected from turning on unintentionally in a pack or pocket, and replacing the battery pack is not super easy. Would still recommend.

I picked up a 2pack of Coast 405lm headlamps at CostCo a few years ago for $20 and absolutely love them. They only use AAA batteries though and after a few hours of use the light would slowly start dimming and many times I would replace the batteries before they were dead because I wanted the bright light a fresh set of batteries gives you.I love this new rechargeable headlamp because it is a little brighter at 530lm but now I can use it for a few hours and then plug it back in to recharge it to 100% so I always get full power whenever I need to use it. More expensive than the other ones I have that only use batteries but worth it.

Great product. Finally got tired of replacing batteries in my old Coast headlight. Tried buying the battery only for use in my old Coast headlight, but, the battery pack did not fit. Now I have extra batteries for this purchase.

I returned this item, it is bright, good visibility and night, but it was too heavy and bulky on my forehead, could not wait to get it off during my run. Returned the next day.

This is a great product. Had the older version with no rechargeable battery. This new one is AMAZING. The options to use rechargeable battery and normal AAA battery makes this products great. It allows me to use this products for long periods of time. I will be buying it again for gifts for my friends in the Electrical trade. 100% satisfied with this product. EXCELLENT

Been using this headlamp for 2 years now with no issues, very bright and very comfortable. I often find myself wearing it for hours and not realizing. I ended up purchasing a second battery, that way I have sufficient battery for the whole day. Very durable light, its been dropped in oil, welded beside, dropped from heights and it still works perfect no issues.

Great product but somewhat expensive. The USB recharging is excellent! I am recharging in the car while driving to my fishing spots. Very convenient!
