Just like RE4 But Was The Most Challenging Resident Evil I've Ever played.
***Feedbacks*** I had always had my Eye on Resident Evil 5 but then i started reading alot of negative feedback and hearing that it wasnt worth buying. So i waited until the price fell down, that way if i didnt like it, at least i'd only spend under 30 bucks on it instead of 50 or over. But i really enjoyed myself, the game is addicting and i can play it all day and all night. It just goes to show that you can't really rely on everyone else's feedback. We all have different tastes and experiences when it comes to games and not eveyone is going to like everything. So its best to give it a shot despite what people say about it. ***Gameplay*** I believe the controls are the same as with Leon, including the shooting and Knife method. During the cut-scenes you are required to push the correct buttons at the bottom to avoid death. Your partner is Sheva, she will be with you until the end at all times. Unlike Ashley, Sheva is very valuable, reliable and SMART! What i mean by smart is the fact that she'll knock over the ladder if enemies try to climb up, she'll even set it back up. if you give her the sniper rifle, she's better at perfect aim when it comes to distant enemies. She'll heal you, give you ammo if you have the gun that is consistant with it (she'll take it out of her inventory and put it in yours). The barrels and boxes are in this one too, the only difference is that everytime you find one, you are guaranteed to pick up something. I've found ALOT more items from these places then in RE4. The graphics, the way they move and facial expressions are excellent! There are a handful or plenty of boss fights, tons of places to go and the gameplay is really long which i like alot! I think it's an extra chapter long then RE4. You will get to drive a speedboat to navigate through the villiages, you'll get to use machine guns/rocket while riding in the back of a truck to help kill off coming motorbike enemies etc. Bascially everything youre doing requires team work. One of the greastest things i like about the game was finally getting your hands on Wesker and having a showdown with him. He's movements are awesome and i would say he's the second coolest Video game Villian next to Sephiroth (FF7). The bad thing i hate about it is that people say this is the end of Wesker. The guy is just too cool in my opinion, but i also read that we'll have to face one of his siblings in the next resident evil game if i read right. You can choose which character you want to be but everything such as the item shop window and their health status will be on opposite sides from each other. For example if Chris uses his knife with the left hand, Sheva will use her right hand. so it takes alittle while to get use to. The two-player option does come in handy ALOT. you can fight boss battles easier by confusing them because with Sheva as a computer, she'll just follow you and stand by your side. but when i was playing with my sister, we kept the boss between us. The chapter completes will be AlOT faster. with sheva on computer, she wont pick up everything available, such as gems and ammo etc. the only thing about playing with someone is that your screen will be split into two horizontally. it does take some time getting use to it but its pretty cool playing with someone. ***BAD THINGS*** 1)Sheva does get in the way ALOT and she ends up wasting tons and tons of bullets becuase she gets behind Chris and shoots him in the back, even though she's aiming at an enemy in front them or Chris. Even when Chris is behind her, trying to aim at an enemy, she'll get in the way too. So its like either way, you just can't win! lol. I usually try to stand beside her. But if you accidentally shoot at each other, it doesnt count at all. Their life does not decrease, unless you use a rocket launcher really close. You will kill yourserlf and/or her. 2)One of the most annoying things about this game is the fact that it lured alot of idiots. What i mean by that is, they are trying to turn this game into a racist video game. As we all know RE5 is set in Africa and most of your enemies are black. Okay, I'm a black female, I get it that most people arent use to black people being IN video games and yes i control a white dude name Chris shooting a bunch of black dudes in the head, but does he really have a choice? especially when these black dudes arent in their right minds anymore! Plus he's got a black partner who's shooting her own people too. When you play some of the first few levels, i've noticed that there are light-skinned zombies too that are like arabian or indian or something, but not all of them were black. ALso as someone else brought up, Leon shot a bunch of spanish people in the heads too, but yet i havent heard of any stupid people crying "racist! racist!". In Racoon city, there were both black and white zombies along with a few women. These two games are VERY identical and i didnt find anything alarming about black zombies. In fact, i even forgot that they are were black becuase it is something i didnt concentrate on, i was too busy trying to beat the game. People are so freaken crazy! 3)There arent any typewriter saves in this game, which is a disappointment becuase its like they stopped the tradition of the save method. Also, once you enter a certain area, you will find that you can't go back. Lets say you forgot to explore an area or missed a box full of money, once you go through a door, elevator or whatever, to the next level, you can't go back. 4)Their inventory boxes are REALLY small, Chris and Sheva can only hold 9 items at time but you find LOADS of ammo and herbs around the place, and you can't help but grit your teeth when there is no space left. I have no idea what they were thinking by giving them such a SMALL inventory! However, what i learned to do about that, is when i come to a checkpoint or save point, i push the start button and pick "restart level". It will take me back to the main inventory/store screen and i can put all my items up on the storage box to create more room. then when i'm done, it will simply take me back to where i left off in the game. (as long as you're at a check point or save point, so you wont have to do everything all over again.) 5)The controls are REALLY awkward at first, it was very hard for me to get the hang of it becuase of how difficult the camera angles were, but as you play along, you will get use to it and forget all about it. 6)You don't find much money (coins) in this game, it is really scarce but the prices are sky high. BUT If you play on the HIGHEST difficult level, everything doubles and triples. if you normally find 3000 bucks in a box, you'll find 6000. zombies normally drop 100s and 200s. you'll pick up 400s and 800s instead. 7)You might have to turn some of the music down becuase sometimes its hard to understand what the characters are saying, especially when it comes to their accents. Plus the captions are too dain small, so its hard to even read that. Even when youre reading files, the words are hard to see, they could have at least shade the background for us to read better. Now i don't have an HD tv or modern tv, so that could be the problem. I still have the same tv that i bought all the way back in....maybe 2004. 8)Another thing about the inventory is the fact that you can't be drawn away from the action WHILE youre roaming through your inventory. You'll have to take cover or use the inventory quick before an enemy attacks you. there is no pausing screen for their inventory. BUT the directional buttons on your controller DOES correspond with the items inside your inventory. for example, if you press the left directional button, Chris will take out which ever item you have put in the left side of the inventory. 9)Sheva may be smart, but she's also annoying and a pest. when your health runs out, you fall into this misery stage where if you do not get help from your partner in the certain amount of time it shows you (a bar will gradully decrease) then the character dies. Lets say Sheva is really far away from you becuase she needs to help you activate a device or goes to retrieve an important item. She goes into that misery mode and begs for help, but you can't do anything for her beucase she's far away. so she just dies and the game is over. ************************************************************************SAVE MONEY********************************************************************* I'm REALLY REALLY upset with the fact that they have launched a new RE 5 called the "Gold Edition" at the last minute when i JUST bought this one which is bascially the same game but comes with TONS AND TONS of extra stuff, such 4 MORE costumes for Chris & Sheva, plus other gameplays. So i would suggest that you do NOT buy the original release of RE5, instead buy RESIDENT EVIL 5: Gold EDition. You will get twice or more stuff with that copy then with this. (if i'm wrong about some things, please correct me) ***Goodies to Unlock & Main Menu*** There are tons of things you can buy or unlock. At the end of each chapter, you'll get a certain amount of points depending on how well you have done. (if you play on the highest difficult level, you earn a heck of more points, so it wont take you longer to unlock stuff) These points help unlock infinite ammo, character profiles and some other things. There are a few character outfits you can unlock, each have two of their own and you can pick which one you would like to be as a default. The Menu screen is awesome. You can replay through any chapters you want, after you've completed them, of course. So this gives you a chance to kinda skip around or go back to retrieve any missing cheat items that you missed. Now i heard that the item shop is so easy to take advantage of. for example if i'm at the end of the game's last chapter, but go back to chapter one and play through it to get more items, it will keep those items in your inventory no matter where you are in the game. Even if you start another game and play through the whole thing a second time etc, everything will still be there. At the Menu there is a Mercenaries game, you can either play with a partner (screens will split) or you can play alone. There are about 7 chapters to this one and bascially you just kill as many enemies as you can before time runs out. I havent fooled around with it much, timed events make me so nervous. :D There is some sort of online gameplay, i'm not really sure becuase my ps3 isnt set up properly yet. There are 4 difficulty levels you can play as, I think they are Amatuer,Normal,Vertern and....well that last one is REALLY REALLY tough becuase one hit can leave you crippled and the enemies are quicker, so be careful. Overall, i had a blast with this game and i'm glad i gave it a shot, woo-hoo! This game is worth buying, especially if you are a long-time resident evil fan! :) Oh yea and Chris is gorgeous!

Great, but seriously aggravating
My review is based on having beaten the game once on single player. I have not played any previous R.E. titles. This is a great game that is marred by some of the most annoying and frustrating game-play mechanics I have ever seen. Despite that, I ended up enjoying it, and it's well worth the $30 being charged for it at the time I'm writing this. But first, be warned of the annoyances! The developers deliberately built in some "challenges" that are not related to actual skill, but more based on the limitations of the control system and other weaknesses of the game-play mechanics. For example, your character moves very S-L-O-W-L-Y. He can run, but it's more like a casual jog. Added to this is the way you spin your character around to face flanking enemies. Rather than the character turning, the ENTIRE GAME WORLD (camera) turns instead, and it does this also S-L-O-W-L-Y. These things would be forgivable, but Capcom decided to make these part of the "challenge" of certain parts of the game. Especially on the last boss fight. The entire game feels like a polished gem in the hands of the artists and level designers and programmers, but then some Capcom executive came in and said "I know what gamers like. Make the character move slow to build tension. And slow that camera down as well." Yeah, we LOVE that crap... The camera movement gave me a massive headache the first day I played. Added to this is the tiny, and I mean TINY aiming reticule. It's like 1 pixel x 1 pixel and became another headache-inducing element from the strain of focusing on such a tiny dot. Finally, worst of all, are the "quicktime events" that pepper the whole game. You're focused on whatever is going on when suddenly and unexpectedly an icon of one of your controller's button appears on the screen for a SPLIT SECOND and if you don't press it, you die. Every time this happened I felt conned. There is no way you can react in time unless you've already played that part, which you will, because you WILL die and play it over. This has got to be the laziest way of creating "challenge" in a game by developers I've ever seen. Please stop this nonsense immediately! Another thing I found annoying was the lack of health meters on enemies. You never know when your foe is close to death, and some enemies take forever to go down. Many times I was left thinking "Am I using the right ammo? Multiple point-blank shotgun blasts to the face and still this b**** keeps coming at me? WTF?!? Anyway, despite these controller-throwing aggravations, the game is still an amazing, intense thrill-ride. I've played a lot of games in the past 10 years and this is one of the greats in terms of production values, graphics and level design. You are constantly moving to new arenas and scenery, which keeps the game interesting. The weapon upgrading system is fun, as are the little extra bonuses you can get after you beat the game, which are a great incentive to play again. I have not tried the co-op multiplayer yet, but aim to do so on my next playthrough. Some of the battles are the most intense I've ever played in a video game and the bosses look AMAZING! Kudos to the artists and designers. This game has some of the coolest explosions I've ever seen! And the great lighting makes them even cooler. The story is also pretty good, although you've heard it before... So in summary, buy this game for an intense, (mostly) fun thrill-ride. At $30, it is a gaming bargain.

A Big Improvemont From Resident Evil 4
To Start off the only reason why I gave this game 4 stars is because you are not able to have more than one game save at a time or at least as far as I can tell. Also I didn't install something when I first started the game (Someone was distracting me) and now I'm not able to host a game. EDIT: I have notice that I have not updated this review, so I have figured out that you can have more than one user on the PS3, making it possible for more than one person to play a game (Sorry but Sony really surprised me with this one). As for hosting a game somehow I managed to figure that out as well. I have also change from 4 stars to 5 stars. Resident Evil 5 is more challenging than the 4th one was and with two players you can have either someone sitting next to you or someone half way around the world, a great improvement. There can be times when this seams like a bad ideal when you just play with the AI, but with online it makes a big improvement. Resident Evil 5 has a good variety of levels, from a small village in Africa to ruins of an ancient city in a cave. The graphics are awesome in HD, the game was little shorter than I had hoped for, was wish it was like the first one in length. However, with online play it makes up for it. Just as with Metal Gear Solid the controller setting have been changed, for the time being I have been using the settings for Resident Evil 4 but will change once I get the hang of the game to increase difficulty.

Can't wait to play it!!(half way thru now on PC)10 zombies outta 10
If this is anything like Rez Evil 4.......count me in for five stars when I update this later. OK, I'm giving this a full five stars now after playing it on the PC. Once I finally play my PS3 version I will update this again, if need be. The game is not nearly as dark and cartoon-like as RE4. Level of detail is better than RE4. The African sundrenched landscape gets a very nice harsh brightly bleached-out look from being baked day after day. The creatures are not necessarily much smarter but they ARE definitely faster and edgier looking. RE4 let's you run away and get some space to do battle. These zombies and other creatures follow you at a much quicker pace to put pressure on you. By the time you turn to fire, sometimes you are a multiple lunch host. RE games aren't for everyone. This is horror. If you like being chased, eaten, chewed on, hunted, and fighting monstrous creatures, you will love this. We are definitely light years beyond Resident Evil 1 and the puzzle solving with slow pizelated zombies and quiet walkways of Raccoon City. Rez Evil 4 isn't really the 4th! AND this isn't really the fifth. Now if you count 'em, I've got Rez Evil 1, Directors Cut(does that count?), Rez Evil 2, Rez Evil3: Nemesis, Rez Evil: Survivor, Rez Evil: Code V', Rez Evil Outbreak: Files 1+2(do I count file2 as one?), Rez Evil 4, and this one, which makes 7,8 or 9 for the 5th?? It's not even close to a correct count. All are classics in gaming history, OK, except the Outbreak series, which thought was tediously boring. Survivor was a little lame too. Well, just play it as Nike says.

A true classic from the PS3 era
I've previously played this game quite a lot but purchased it for a friend of mine who was not familiar with the series. This is a great game for people who enjoy online co-op with their RL friends. The entire campaign is 2-player, and carries over the relatively intuitive and tight control of Resident Evil 4 as well as the same great open-space set pieces. The flaw of this game is that it lacks the creepy and macabre atmosphere of its predecessors, but that's the trade-off when you add a second player. RE5 is still an excellent game in its own right, but demands to be played with a friend. Adding to its lasting appeal are two co-op DLC missions, as well as an adrenaline-pumping co-op mini-game (Mercenaries) where you race against the clock to try to get your high score. Highly recommended. A staple of the definitive PS3 library.
