The Verlinden Way Volume 1

I have recently gotten back in to modeling, and remembered this book. It is a very good reference.

Don't waste your money like I did! Similar pix contained therein can be viewed in mass quantity on many sites. Minimal How-to, only 3 pgs dedicated to the topic.

To those who are so unexperienced to give this book a low rating, DO YOUR HOMEWORK. This was Verlindenso first book published in the early 1980s. It was before Verlinden became the business it is and this book was groundbreaking at the time as a collection of his works, with no internet it was also the only way to view his pieces as a collection. There are several text pages at the beginning describing basic techniques and colour guides fir both brush and airbrush. Yes the book is dated now due to the wealth of reference available now, but as said this was groundbreaking and still holds up today as a reference to this great pioneer in the hobby. The pI tunes are high quality and only a bad modeller can fail to get inspiration from this book. Mine is so worn that I am buying another copy

This is Verlinden's first book on dioramas, and it includes quite a lot of them. Each diorama gets, on the average, a couple of photos (the photography is top notch), and a brief description of the used kits.Do not look for detailed building information here; the book only includes a few too short text pages at the beginning. The emphasis is on pictures, which provide plenty of ideas for your own dioramas.

Ok, Verlinden is a good modeller, and quite a prolific too, but this first volume is completely useless.Techniques and modelling tips are very basic (almost poor): just a fiew paragraph, couple of pages and that's it!Diorama next: a lot of pictures, but again, no comments on 'how it's done', just the finished stuff.Overall, it could have been a good book back in the '80s, but today you could easily find much more informations, pictures, tips, step by step guides for free on the internet.For me it has been a complete disillusionment on papaer.

Not a criticism of the book, but a question. Why is there a new edition here for $244+ when it's available from the publisher for $16?

A great addition to my collection of Verlinden books. Great advice, tips and inspiration.
