Little Hide and Seek: Animals

I purchased this book for my then 27m old son for some toddler-level search and find, and I am very pleased with the format of this book. In term of coloring and photos, it is an excellent next level to the DK Peekaboo and Noisy Peekaboo and Flaptastic books. In terms of a first search-and-find, it is an excellent photograph based book to compare to the illustration-based First Look and Find series, e.g.  Elmo & Friends (My First Look and Find)  (an okay series), or  Search and Find: Moo, Quack, Roar and More!  (also very cute, and we like). It's a tier easier than the Priddy Books'  Treasure Hunt Can You Find Me? (Seek and Find Book) (these books are also excellent, albeit for the next skill level up). As a note, the book is small format at 7 ¼" x 7 ¼".The concept of this book is that an animal baby is looking for its mother, and can the toddler reader help locate the mother amongst a number of photos of related animals on the opposite page (around 25 photos of varying sizes). The challenge level of the book is suitable for the 21m - 36m old reader. I'd say not too much younger as some of the photos are fairly small (1/2" x 1/2"), and the backgrounds, while vibrant, are quite "busy" for the toddler eye. I'd say not too much older than 36m simply because the book is designed to challenge at the toddler level, not at a preschool level. To be clear, the animal being searched for isn't hidden in any way, the photos don't even overlay/overlap with one another at all. If you look at the front cover of the book, you can see a decent representative example of how the search page is laid out. The child reader is being challenged to look at a number of photos of differing sizes and of various animals and see, amongst them, if they can locate the photo of the animal baby's mother.In total, there are five two-page spreads, each focusing on a specific animal "habitat", with an additional final page that once you open it up, the page pops-up into a double-size square pop-up with all of the animals in the book, labeled with their respective names. The "habitats" are pets in the home, farm animals, jungle/rainforest animals, safari/savannah animals, and arctic animalsThe book is fun because, in the usual DK fashion, it features full color photos of animals in various sizes on themed brightly colored backgrounds. The left side of the page has a little rhyme indicating that a baby animal(s), photograph near rhyme, is searching for its/their mother ("Meow! Meow! Where's Mommy gone? We want Mommy now!"). A small-sized photograph of the baby's mother is displayed underneath the rhyme and it is the exact photograph that the child should search for on the right hand side of the page. The bottom of the page has a series of three, labeled, small sized photographs that the child can also search for on the opposite page, and the last photograph in this series is always the little Dalmatian puppy, who can be "found" on every page (he's not hidden, he's in plain view amongst all of the photos, but he's a bit smaller about ¾" high by ½" wide).The right side of the page contains the search page which is a number of various sized photographs of animals, arranged in an organized manner against an interesting and colorful background. In fact, the background on the right-hand search side of the page is a photograph of a piece of colored fabric, which has the effect of making that page look textured. So for example, on the house pets page, the background is a photograph of blue-and-white checkered gingham cloth (which resembles a table cloth fabric).The final page opens up into a double size fold-out page that contains all of the previously displayed photos with identifying labels of the animals.Overall, the book has beautiful, full color photographs, even if some are fairly small. An excellent look-and-find book for the young set, I'd say appropriate for the 21m - 36m old reader.

Got this after my daughter mastered the Find Momo board book, but it's not as good. The pages are busy, and the extreme size differences between the matching objects on the left vs right pages make them harder to find. Also, there are only 3 actual pages, the last is a pop out page with a ton of pics on it.

Fun book for little ones. Cute pictures with plenty of things to find. Even when they have memorized all the questions from the text, there are plenty of other images on the page to find things to search, or even making animal sounds!

Nice pictures, colorful and few words that granddaughter can learn.

2 year old loves this book!

My two year old twin grandsons love this book. Beautiful illustrations. They love naming the animals and making animal sounds. Sturdy book, they have turned the pages many times. They especially like the pop up page.

2 yr old has a lot of fun finding animals.

Our grandson will spend hours looking at the pictures and finding the objects. We have these books at our house and when he visits with his parents, he will ask them to find the objects. So much fun!

My 15-month granddaughter loves looking at the pictures in this book. It is not your normal farm animals but a variety if everythingOnly complaint us the pop-out page To see it properly you have to spread it flat which defeats the purpose of a pop-out. When the child pulls it to see the picture it gets destroyed!!

2 and 3 year old boys both love this book. Lovely pictures & love trying to find the little puppy.
