Review: Outstanding for the price - Rexing V1 with GPS attachment I base my purchases on what the product description says the product will do and how that meets my needs. My reviews are based on how well the product meets that product description and performance. (My tech and experience level: High) This is a good unit. In short, it does pretty much exactly what it says it will do. I bought the V1 and then added the GPS several days later after finding it had recent become available. PRODUCT PERFORMANCE INF0 The V-1 records in 4 modes, 1080P, 780P and two older VGA type formats I played with all four and all give very good video results. The two lower res versions are, of course, more pixelated and not as sharp, but still pretty good. In honesty, I couldn't tell much practical difference in the 1080 & 720 versions. Obviously, the 1080 was a bit sharper, but for signs, people, cars, the difference was minor. I am using the 720 setting now. If you have interest in how big the files are for 3 minute loops (MOV format): 1080P: 320 megs 720P: 185 megs Both of the VGA types: 115 megs Obviously, you will need to use some kind of file sharing or cloud service to share your recordings unless you use a video editor to cut and paste. The GPS seems to be a good unit. It comes with a cord long enough to allow positioning on the dash with a clear sky view. This is essential for any GPS reciever. Mine gets a position fix and lock in under 20 seconds from a cold (unpowered) start. This is in line with full blown GPS units. Based on tracking results (see below), the unit is accurate. I never had any dropout of lock except when inside structures (normal). SD card - It says the unit has a max of 32g cards, but the text on the desertcart sale page lists a 64g card that will work. I got the 64g and have had no trouble. No idea if others will work also. Firmware updates are simple - download on a PC from Rexing, put it on the micro SD card and plug the card into the unit. You will need the latest version from their site to use the GPS. Software - a small CD is included with the GPS. It contains an app that is a nifty image viewer/tracker. You get a movie viewer that will open the recordings, pull info off the embedded GPS data and display speed and other parameters. It also opens a window using Google Maps and displays the track contained in the file and the current position being viewed. I used the app on two Win10 PCs and had no issues installing or operating. Mounting - I would recommend getting some 3M removable mounting tape (it's similar to the mounting tape included with the unit, but you can get it off much more easily). I've experimented with a number of locations and still haven't decided which I like best, so it helps to have the removable tape. When you mount the unit, make sure you have clearance to move the unit enough to disengage it from the tab on the mount. SUMMARY I wanted a basic dash cam. I think this one is a bit more than that. It's not a full blown professional vehicle recorder, but it makes no pretense to be. When used with the GPS, it does everything I wanted to do. If this is what you want, I think it would be a good choice.
Review: This review is now for the Rexing V1-4K Ultra HD camera - This isn't my first rodeo. Bought the original Rexing V1 Basic back in June 2016. One of the nice features is it allowed configuration of Delayed Shutdown to 10 seconds when disconnected from power source (i.e. - turn the car off) but after 6 years of use the battery would no longer hold a charge so when the car turned off the camera would shut off before 10 seconds and the video would get corrupted because the camera did not successfully close out writing the latest video to the memory card before the camera shut down. Hence the purchase of this upgraded V1 4K Ultra camera. I'm sure this review will overwrite my original Rexing V1 Basic review. Oh well (shrug), it is what it is. I'm just as pleased with this V1 4K Ultra HD camera as I was with the original V1 Basic. The big difference is the video quality. In a word: AMAZING! The microphone does a fairly decent job of recording inside the car. So far the date/time is being maintained correctly. With the V1 Basic I was having to adjust the time every 6-8 months or so because it would slowly increase. So it remains to be seen if this new camera will keep the time or slowly increase. Two caveats that need mentioning. The first caveat being that with the V1 Basic there was the option to set Delayed Shutdown default setting 10 seconds, which I liked. It appears this camera V1 4K Ultra HD does not have that option. You turn your car off and the camera completes writing the video to the memory card and turns off. No Delayed Shutdown feature. The second caveat is with the V1 Basic, Loop Recording could be set to 3 minutes, 5 minutes, 10 minutes or OFF. I had mine configured for 10 minute segments which I liked. Unfortunately the V1 4K Ultra HD camera could only be set to 1 minute, 2 minutes, 3 minutes or OFF. Well, this I did not like but I figured since I'm now retired and probably won't be doing any really long distance driving (probably no more than an hour, if that long), I opted to set Loop Recording to OFF. The first time I used the new camera was when I drove to the local hamburger fast food drive through. It just so happened that evening their drive through was really busy and my total drive time was about 42 minutes. The next day I needed to drop off a letter at the post office so that total drive time was about 8 minutes. After I got home I decided to check the video quality to compare to the V1 Basic. Now remember, I set the Loop Recording to OFF so with just two errands on the SD video card there should only have been two video files. Right? Well, imagine my surprise when I plugged the SD card into my computer and saw not two but four video files! Apparently if you set Loop Recording to OFF the V1 4k Ultra HD camera will automatically create 15 minute (or less) video segments. You won't find that mentioned anywhere on Rexing's website or in the Owners Manual or even here on desertcart. My only concern now is Rexing seeing this and on the next Firmware update they decide to remove that ability, thinking it's a "bug". Yupp, gotta love developer logic. "Oh, we can't have that. Better fix it in the next Firmware update so it won't happen going forward." So, yeah, I probably won't be doing any Firmware updates, that's for sure. :) Oh, one other thing and I don't know if this makes any difference or not but the original V1 Basic created videos in the MOV format. This V1 4K Ultra HD creates videos in the MP4 format. Overall I'm very pleased with this new camera so far and if it continues to perform as well as the V1 Basic then I know this one will provide me with years of satisfied service.

## Features

- ULTRA HD DISCREET DESIGN DASH CAM: Top image sensor captures beautiful 2160p video even while driving fast. Signature low-profile design allows the V1 to be a well-hidden witness to the road ahead. Supports high-endurance micro SD memory cards up to 256GB in memory size.
- 170 DEGREE ULTRA WIDE ANGLE LENS & WIDE DYNAMIC RANGE: The 7 layer glass lens opens up to capture a sweeping view of your surroundings. The superior WDR technology allows the camera to perform optimally in any lighting situation by adjusting the exposure to create balanced images and footage.
- SUPERCAPACITOR & PARKING MONITOR: The dash cam uses a supercapacitor which can withstand extreme temperatures from -20 to 176°F, that prevents the risk of overheating, extends the life span and reliability of the camera. With the parking monitor feature, the dash camera will automatically turn on and record a 20 second video when the car camera detects vibration OR select to record 24/7 by capturing frames to make a 24/7 time lapse video. Need smart hardwire kit to activate the parking mode.
- WIFI CONNECT: View, save, and share dash cam recordings wirelessly on your mobile device with the use of an app interface.
- LOOP RECORDING AND G-SENSOR: Video can be recorded in 1,2 or 3 minute intervals. When the storage limit is reached on the memory card, new recordings will automatically overwrite the oldest recordings. When the built-in gravity sensor detects a collision, the current video is locked, ensuring important footage is kept protected. Locked videos will be kept safe from being overwritten.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: How many minutes of video will a 32 GB card record in this unit?**
A: For 3 minutes 1080p video, it will take about 300MB space, 32GB card can take about 320 minutes video which equals to 5.3 hours.

**Q: Can you set the camer up to record more than a 3 minute loop? can it just record until the chip is full then start over?**
A: I have the Rexing V1-4K Ultra HD camera. On *MY* camera the available "Loop Recording" options are 1, 2 or 3 minutes, which I did not care for. However I did discover, quite by accident, if you set the video "Loop Recording" feature to "OFF" then it will default to loop recording 15 minute segments. For me this is a lot better than the 1, 2 or 3 minute options available on my camera. Hope this helps.

**Q: When I want to save a loop to download later is it fairly simple to do so while driving? The one I have now is too complicated!**
A: While the DVR is recording video, press the <OK> button to lock/protect thevideo clip into a separate folder in the memory card. A key shaped icon will bedisplayed on the top right side of LCD indicating the video file is locked. Thelocked files will not be overwritten even when the MicroSD card becomes full.http://www.rexingusa.com/Downloads/Rexing%20V1-edited-Final-20150708.pdf

**Q: Does it have a microphone, and how good is the microphone if so?**
A: It has a microphone and it picks up sound rather well and can be turned off if needed.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Not so great, Great little camera
*by S***Z on April 21, 2016*

UPDATE 5/9/2017: I am updating my rating. So this is long overdue. The company resolved the issue by sending me a new camera free of charge. The new one worked and continues to work great. As a matter of fact I was the victim of a hit and run on January 27th of this year. The driver was underage and DUI. He also hit 3 other vehicles including the personal vehicles of 2 police officers. Today the video from the dash cam, although dark because it was late, was used to convict him on numerous charges. Without it I don't think it would have been as easy since the defense tried to argue that no one actually saw the person driving the car. Thank you Rexing for the help. Now if only they had a solution for my new vehicle so I can monitor front, back and sides 24/7 it would be even better. UPDATE 8/3/2016: I recently was checking my dash cam for some vandalism/tampering that has been going on on our street. I intentionally park so that I can see the cars in front and the intersection. Anyways, in doing so I noticed that the images from the camera seemed hazy. At first I thought it was a finger print from taking it out of the window or maybe something on the windshield itself. I cleaned the round lense on the camera with a microfiber glasses cloth and then washed the windshield with windex and then also wiped it with the microfiber in front of the camera. Here we are a few weeks later and I checked a few times and the images are all hazy. I just pulled it out of the car a few minutes ago and then same thing. This actually the second I received. The first one was broken out of the box and they were very responsive and promptly sent me out a new one with a return tag. We will see if they will be able to exchange or replace it. I cant say I would highly recommend it at this point. Even at $99, it doesn't make it worth it if your images are randomly hazy. I wouldn't have even noticed until I needed it, if it wasn't for the kids messing with cars lately. I will update as the situation moves forward. I was recently involved in an accident while towing my companies commercial. It was not my fault but the person who hit the trailer tried to say it was my fault. Thankfully the only witnesses were police and fire personnel already responding to an accident in progress. With that, my insurance and the police recommended I install a dash cam. They said that if I had been involved in a rear end accident it could serve as evidence against the other driver if the accident occurred due to their negligence. So, I did some research and decided on this one. Besides having features I was looking for, including motion sensing, time stamping, auto on/off, higher quality images and others, it was the most rated on Amazon. I received the camera the next day in the evening. Right out of the box I noticed it is compact with easy to use buttons. Once I read through the instruction booklet it was time to get started. I plugged it in and it came on automatically. A word to the wise, if you plug it into you computer to start charging you will not be able to access the menus. It will only give you options to use it as a camera for the comp or storage. If you plug it in and turn it off you an later unplug it and program it all you want. I wanted a 64GB card for storage. I purchased the one recommended. It will say that it does not read the card when you first insert it. To solve this just format the card in the camera. Once this is done I went online and downloaded the free firmware update with a few additional features. Follow the instructions on their website and its easy. Just remember to format the card again in the camera after you upload the new firmware or it will always try to reload the firmware and will cause you to have to reset you settings every time. Once the update is done then you can set the time and settings and you are good to go. The one problem I did have was that the power button didn't seem to turn the unit on or off. After reading the booklet and thinking I was nuts I realized that the power button was the only one that didn't have resistance and didn't make the *click* sound the others did. Even though it was Friday evening I messaged Rexing. To my surprise I received a response on Sunday Afternoon from them apologizing for the issue. They also asked for my order info so they could send me a new one right away. I also noted that in a number of reviews there was a common complaint of the sticky pad they provide giving way in extremes, cold or hot. I asked them about getting some extra and they said no problem. If the sticy pad ever fails let them know and they will send me more. I received the new one yesterday. I did the same thing I did before and got it all ready to go. Although I didn't take the time to set it up in my vehicle, I can say from the "trials" inside the house the video images seem to be clear and have a high quality and resolution. I will post an update in a few weeks once I have had the opportunity use the camera in my vehicle and real get a feeling for its features and quality. P.S. The second one I received was slightly different than the one I received first. I liked the first one better because it was matte black with all black buttons. The second one is glossy black and the OK button is bright orange. Both are fine for me and I don't think it is that important to request they replace it again with the same one, but from their own comments on other sites they will replace it. Apparently there are just 2 different styles. Same features and everything else.
