Rode VideoMic Pro Compact Shotgun Microphone, 200 Ohms - Bundle - with Deadcat VMP Furry Wind Cover for VideoMicPro

I bought this product after an extensive search for the Best Mic. A You Tube search offered great reviews for this product. There are also plenty of reviews out there that would help decide if this MIC is for you but I did notice that there wasn't much feed back on WIND screens for this Mic.Pros: Great sound quality!! (bottom line it is about ALL about the sound) and it is much smaller/compact than the first version Rode Mic which is a plus.Cons: The DEADCAT VMP furry wind cover that comes with this product is NOT good when using in Windy conditions....You're better off buying the Rode VideoMic Pro by it's self and then purchase a BETTER quality wind screen separately. This bundle package is Not a Money saver since now I have to buy a better quality wind screen for this mic. There are better wind screens out there. The wire for the mic is a little delicate but if you take special care with your equipment you shouldn't have to worry, this product also comes with a 10 year warranty so be sure to register it if you are worried about the quality of the mic. The warranty however does not cover user damage (damages caused by the user). The battery compartment is also a little trick to open due to it's placement on the mic but I as a buyer can over look that since the SOUND quality is amazing.

The sound quality that it produces is not too bad, it is a RODE product after all. The problem with this unit is that the deadcat is completely useless and fails to do its job in even the slightest breeze. The way the unit is configured makes switching the battery kind of a PITA and the cord its just a bit too short. When paired with a 7D the cameras AGC with this mic produces a very audible hiss that makes the audio unusable. Might sound better going into a h4n or similar but at this price might as well go with the NTG-2.

I was kinda disappointed my expectation was high. I love rodes and watch tons of youtube vidoes then decided to purchase this thing with high hopes. It works but not magnificently, guess nothing can replace a boom mic. I still lets in alot of background noise, its better than the on board mic on your camera. I wanted to give it 2 stars because of how expensive it was but i thought maybe its my settings maybe iam doing something wrong. I will continue to move forward with this mic with hopes i doing something incorrect and cross my fingers. If im wrong i will change my review but for now (Sad Face)

The deadcat is hard to slip on. The nylon material goes on the bottom. With mic off camera, pull the cat all the way to cover the entire length. The Velcro connects by the switches, covering them. Only the on light is visible. The shocks remain on the outer cat. Leave the original foam on. You may still pick up wind, just turn the camera mic settings down. I am leaving mine on, for indoors to. I store the complete unit in a lens case I had, inside my main bag.

I was concerned that the quality might not be as good with this little guy, but I was wrong! I shoot professional wedding videography using DSLRs and was surprised by how great (clear) the sound is! The battery life is excellent as well so I could literally leave it on all day. We have even used sound from this mic over a lavaliere in a ceremony because it picks up so well. My one complaint is that it has come off a few times because it isn't as securely mounted as a shotgun mic would be on a camcorder. That may just be a DSLR issue more than the mic, though.

Watch DSLR Film Noob's videos on youtube to understand how to really use this thing. I bought it to use with my canon 7d, and after the software update on canon's website that gives you manual audio control in conjunction with the Rode, you can get true, crips audio for your video projects. In a lot of cases, the audio going thru this into camera is totally useable in your finished film video, or tv projects. You NEED the dead cat muffler... don't let anyone tell you different. Makes all the difference in the world both indoors and out.

Works really well. When I first used it on my Nikon d610 I had a background hiss in everything I couldn't get rid of until I turned off the automatic gain control and turned the gain down manually. Now I use the mic on +20db with the high pass filter on and get great quality audio with no background noise.

Really good quality. However, keep in mind that if you are going to be recording someone or something speaking from far away, you should look into a lav mic. This is more for recording something up close or vlogging
