Will not complete setup
Update 1/18/2021 - A 3rd method for setup: I plugged an Ethernet cable into the Extender and my router, then I reset the Extender to factory settings by pressing the reset button with a paper clip and let it reboot. This time I got a solid green dot light indicating it was connected and ready. In my PC’s Firefox browser I entered dlinkap.local into the browser’s address window and it started the Extender’s setup wizard. There is no password, so just hit LOG IN. In settings, I configured the wireless network name (SSID) and password for my router. When you hit SAVE, then later OK, it takes you out of the wizard. I removed the Ethernet cable and unplugged/re-plugged the Extender to reboot it. This time I got only the amber light – not connected. It would not connect to my router with WIFI You get only one shot at the setup. When you try to go back in again using an Ethernet cable it can’t find the device. You have to reset the Extender back to factory settings and go through the whole process again. Nothing I tried would enable the Extender to connect with WIFI to my Netgear AC1200 R6900 router.WPS and SSID broadcast are disabled on my router, so I attempted manual setup of the DAP-1610 Extender. Changed iPhone's WIFI to D-Link WIFI network and it connected, then ran D-Link WIFI app with phone 2 feet from Extender. Started setup wizard, but it could not detect Extender. Repeated whole process several times, same result. This "renewed" Extender will be going back.

Set up in under 5 min
I read a lot of reviews that stated the setup was difficult or didn’t work at all. I’m fairly tech-savvy and found a used unit for around $20, so I figured I’d give it a shot. I was pleasantly surprised to find that setup for me was as simple as plugging it in close to my router, allowing it to power up, pressing the WPS butting on my router and on the extender, it did the rest. Took it about 2-3 min to connect then I just unplugged it and moved it in my basement where I needed it. It’s been working flawlessly ever since. I’ll update if something goes wrong or if I run into difficulties as it hasn’t even been a week. I can’t speak for the other ways you can try setting up the unit but it took me less than 5 min with the WPS option.EDIT: I have now had the item for a while and have had a chance to test it. It has been working flawlessly and certainly helps my with working from home since my office is set up in my basement. It used to be spotty and sometimes disconnect but now it's been steady and working well.

Functioned only briefly
I am in the process of returning. This device was easy to set up and replicated the name of the network as advertised. That's where the positives end. For a time it performed as intended, but I suspect it overheated or something, despite ample airflow. For the past month it has only established an internet connection intermittently, and usually provided less than 1/10 of the speed from the normal router. This, despite displaying all 3 bars of connectivity on the device and a strong connection to my computer. Most of the time, the connection is quite strong like this, but no internet access is established at all. In the farthest corner of the house, I get better performance from the router than from this device when it is placed exactly in the middle.

Purchased a "refurbished unit"...junk
Note this was a refurb and not a new unit.Work great for a while then speed went to nearly 0. Did a couple of factory resets with no better results so returned unit. When it worked it worked great. Placed it on 2nd floor directly above the main router and all 4 upstairs bedrooms had a good signal with at least 120 MBS speed. (Next to main router was 180 MPS).

Easy to Install and Configure
Works great! Just connect your device to a computer using an ethernet cord. Type in the Dlink IP address. Configure the network, and your set. The one I purchased is extending a corporate Cisco network in the building I work at.

Extends wifi ok, but creates a new wifi name
Extends wifi ok, but creates a new wifi access point with a different name rather than using the existing name. So as you move into it’s zone of coverage in your house you have to change your wifi connection.

Don’t buy this
I’m fairly tech saavy and I have tried numerous ways to get this to work and can’t get it to connect unless directly plugged in, which doesn’t really serve the purpose of extending the Wi-Fi range. The app in the install also does not work and redirects you to a second app that doesn’t connect.

Doesn’t work with secure networks! Works fine with unsecured signals
No matter what I’ve tried, connecting to a secure network is impossible. During setup it says it connects, but nothing will connect through this device. Just keeps trying to get an IP assignment then fails. You get what you pay for, spend some extra money and get something that works.

This is the most frustrating, difficult to set up unit I have ever had.
This is the most frustrating, difficult to set up unit I have ever had. You must first connect to it then start set up. You give it a name.. which it ignores and assigns another name when you pick the router you want to connect to. It will only connect to WPA2 routers... not WPA.. not WEP.. not open. It has a mind of its own. I try to use it while on our boat to enhance marina wifi to our boat but it completely refuses to do anything I ask. It will only accept my home router as it's WPA2 and set up properly. It's fussy, hard to use and in my mind a complete waste of time and money. If you want to extend your wifi at home it may work for you but if you intend to travel with it.. forget it. You must be sure the marina/RV Park etc wifi is set up perfectly to WPA2.. most are set up by morons so you're out of luck. Don't bother with this thing... it's too much of a problem and you'll be disappointed.

Bad signal and speed
Placing the extender in the corner of my kitchen and it's just separated by a wall (drywall with some wood bars) and about 6 meters away from the ISP router, the signal isn't good enough ( I'd say the signal is too bad). Even I put my cellphone nearby the extender, the 2.4GHz signal strength is only about 80-90%, sometimes is full. 5.0GHz signal strength is even worse, at the same spot (right next to the extender and put my cellphone close to the antennae), it only got 20%-30%. The signal strength is even worse than my cellphone at the same spot, don't even talk about the speed, so why would I need an extender at any point?I'm not sure it's about Dlink or this model or all extenders work like this, but the signal strength is totally unacceptable.

do not buy refurbished
i wasted over an 1 1/2 hours on the phone with my service provider and D link to finely get it connected ( so i thought ) then my sister inlaw came home and i could not get her phone to connect, not even to my router until i unpluged this item, also i could not access the device to change the password that's when i said enough is enough and sent it back

Only worked briefly. . . .
Initially this Extender worked fine, and I haven’t moved it from its location. After a couple of months, it started to not work occasionally. Now, ( 5 months later) it barely works intermittently.I’ve done everything I could, resetting, rebooting, etc.No luck. I’ve have attempted to communicate with the seller. So far — no luck.Update Dec.15, 2020: Still ZERO reply from the SELLER - D-Link Canada.

Doesn’t work
My tech guy had to hardwire it into my system and it stopped working in one week. Very difficult to install wouldn’t connect and didn’t seem to boost the wifi signal a great deal. Very expensive for a refurbished item and is old stock. Will be returning the item.
