Essential Swedish Grammar (Dover Language Guides Essential Grammar)

This little book is wonderful and never pretends to be something its not. The author is forthcoming about how to use this book, so buyer beware: This is *not* a good starting point for learning Swedish.It absolutely is, however, a great resource for "filling in the gaps" if you're already learning the language but need something succinct. Fellow Duolingo students should find this book completely indispensable as it explains what the app/site tends to neglect.As always, be careful of anyone saying a native speaker finds an educational resource wrong or useless. I'm sure you know plenty of people who can speak English just fine but couldn't write an email that wasn't completely riddled with grammatical or spelling errors.Basically, this book will not teach you "street" Swedish. That's important just the same, but there are plenty of YouTube channels for it.

I have been using Duolingo and feeling very puzzled by some of the Swedish grammar. This book has been a huge help to fill in the gaps in understanding the grammar rules. I neither want to lug around a heavy in-depth book, nor do I want to do a lot of reading to understand the basics. This book is small and yet covers a lot of grammar rules. Very glad that I bought it.

Explanations of grammatical terms could be better, in my opinion, but overall this is a very thorough and well-organized aid to learning Swedish.

This book has helped me to grow quickly as a writer and reader of Swedish. It is very to-the-point, useful and clear, even if (as it admits) it isn't perfectly thorough. It is well-marked, so that I can refer easily to the needed section to find clearly presented information about how to put together a graceful Swedish sentence. My Swedish correspondents are impressed.

I'm using this to go along with swedish lessons. I would never memorize all the rules that are in here but it does lay out what they are in a very clear way. The rules are something to follow while I figure out what "sounds" right and helps me know that there is somewhat of a method to the madness.

So small a book can hardly be the last word on Swedish grammar. The material is well organized, easy to follow, but far more examples are needed. Several pages are wasted on a wordy explanation of English grammar terms. With so much available now on Internet, a basic book like this is adequate. On Internet I can find texts, newspapers, even novels in Swedish. All I really need is a concise explanation of Swedish grammar, and this book is it.

This is the first book I use. It is a great aid for students of Swedish, and well worth the price.

The book is worth the money. It is concise but well organized so it really gives you a quick "pocket" reference to what you need to understand Swedish grammer. Do not expect it to be your only source for learning the language. Despite the title, I dont think the author intended that. There are numerous resources out there on the internet and in print for that purpose. Fo me, it was what i needed. That said, it is interesting that the authors chose to use French and German words as pronunciation examples for Swedish letters in a book intended for English readers. There are certainly Engish examples that would work. That said, you can learn letter pronunciation on the internet.

Excellent book for beginners of foreigner language

Really helpful for clarifying some of the more confusing aspects of Swedish grammar

Somewhat outdated, but still very useful for a basic grammar.
