I was told Asus was a quality brand. It arrived broken right out of the box. No customer support. After several hours with a Microsoft rep and technician it was concluded the unit was defective. It took forever to get a refund. Bought a Lenovo from Best Buy instead and am very satisfied.

In my opinion, worse purchase ever. Obnoxious seller.

I just bought it at Best Buy for $750 = $1000 original price - $150 student discount - $100 sale .For that price it is an excellent deal considering the specifications. The performance is very smooth (dedicated video) and the battery life is decent. It feels premium in construction except for the keys (a little cheap and plastic feel and look). It has nice balance although a little heavy and dense - nothing unusual. The screen is vivid and the backlit keyboard is very useful. The audio with the included little SonicMaster device that plugs in and sits next to it provides really surprisingly loud and clear audio. Great deal! I looked at Lenovo for several weeks (was going to go with Y40-80 online for about the same price which has better video and double the RAM but hotter, bulkier, less battery than Q551) but had to go with this ASUS instead because of the value. Also has an optical drive you won't find on a lot of today's laptops.

Wanted to provide some meaningful feedback for anyone looking at this device (typing on the device itself while i write this review). This has been one of my favorite laptops I've had over the years. Out of the box, it was a decently powered behemoth (i'm used to smaller laptops, and it took some adjustment but honestly i cant go back). However it had one very limiting factor, its harddrive was a MAJOR bottleneck. Asus clearly dropped the ball on this laptop by placing low end harddrives in an otherwise decently spec'd laptop. I was able to remedy that by swapping the optical dvd drive out for a secondary harddrive and making the ssd primary. Since doing that, it is still a decently spec'd laptop and it screams (especially for its age at this point!). Upgrading was very non-problematic, the back pops off with plastic pry bars and a few screws and the internals are available in a way that even a novice at pc upgrades can interact with all the key components.I game on this laptop, this is my daily rider (i use my OGIO laptop back pack and carry it wherever i go). The touch screen is responsive and just works (my daughter loves paint apps with the touchscreen). All in all a great purchase.

I bought this laptop because I wanted an upgrade on my laptop and windows 10. I had debated back and forth between an All-In-One and a laptop, but I have heard such good things about the Asus brand and the specs I wanted just don't come with the All-in-ones pretty much. The particular laptop I received of this model did have windows 8 still but I was immediately prompted to download windows 10 which I was able to successfully do. Some of them do come automatically with windows 10, I would definitely recommend that you check into that before buying, make sure you get the version you want. After the download (which took 9 hours) I set up everything and have had a few days to play around with it. I was able to download a manual from ASUS and that has helped me familiarize myself with it. I must say I LOVE the backlit keyboard. I am still getting used to windows 10 but I must say it is easier to adjust to than windows 8 was, so I am happy with my decision to switch over. The computer boots up fast and really seems to run well. The graphics are beautiful. So far I am really happy with my ASUS purchase and would recommend this cool little portable laptop.
