Wonderful read and seeing how the prices were then. Many items remebered in my home growing up and especially at Grandma's.

It's exactly what I wanted. Because the way I want to use it for making art and junk journaling the size is great. Just notice that the pages are not all in numerical order and some were inserted backwards is reason i took off one star. Overall love the vintage style of the pages.

This 130 year old catalog features a surprising wide variety of different products. Fun looking through this catalog, including seeing how low prices were a century ago.

I purchased this primarily to make ephemera and embellishments for journals. I'm keeping it because it will still work for that. I don't know if this is actually a 'copy' of the catalog, or someone has taken the ads and increased the number of them per page, thus making the print so small. I have poor vision anyway, so can't read even the titles and prices of the items, which make them so interesting. So, if you extraordinary eyesight you might be able to peruse this and chuckle over items and prices. If your wish is to chop it up for projects, it will work as it sort of fades into the background.

Bought this catalog for myself last year. I sit and look over the items and prices all the time. It is a bit of nostalgia. I had no idea that they had everything back then. I bought this last one for my brother. He doesn't get out much and I know that he is going to enjoy it as much as I do. He started leafing through it the minute I handed it to him. Almost 700 pages.

OK, it's a catalog. In it's day, it was THE catalog. Today we have the internet. Back then you had Sears (and 1 or 2 others), and that was the same thing. If you look through this volume (it's too big to be called a mere "Book"), you can find just about anything that was for sale in that year. You could literally use it as a one-stop shopping place. Plus, read all the pages in front of the main catalog - like shipping rates, proof of solvency, and all the rest. It's fascinating.I use it as an RPG resource, but even my kids like to look through it to see what things "used" to be. And you would be surprised to find out how many "modern" things were for sale back then. But don't look at the prices - you'll just end up upset when you start realizing just how much inflation has occurred!Almost everything in the catalog is illustrated, most of it in great detail. If you have later catalogs as well, it's really neat to compare the same or similar items to see how they change over time. As homeschoolers, we based an entire technology unit on tech development, and had four different catalogs to compare and contrast. The kids loved it! And we have used this edition more than a few times when trying to figure out just what it was we were looking at while going through antique stores. We caught more than a few "mislabels" doing that.I think this - and other books like it - are well worth their price, if for no other reason than preserving a record of American history. If this is your thing, then you'll love this catalog.

Most people who know me just shake their heads when they see I purchased this reprinted old catalogue. But it is a fascinating book. Until you look at this catalogue you have no idea that Sears was the original "Amazon" (and in some aspects carried even more things (obviously compared to the times)). It's not a novel, just a fun book to pick up and thumb through (a great coffee table or conversation starter book).

Printing quality not the best but an interesting read

Sehr schön bietet dieser Katalog, der wohl ein umfassendes Angebot an allen möglichen Produkten der damaligen Zeit aufweist, eine Möglichkeit in die Vergangenheit zu reisen, über das zu staunen was es gab und auch was es kostete. Für Menschen, die am Leben in diesem Zeitalter interessiert sind, ist der Katalog eine echte Hilfe. Auch wenn er sich an den US-Bürger der damaligen Zeit richtete.

My mom is really interested in seeing and reading about the 1800s, so I thought this would be a good birthday gift idea. Well, she told me that it would be a good birthday gift. I did not disappoint. Catalogue was delivered in time for her birthday and she goes through it a couple of times a week :)

für meine Frau mal als Überrauschung - Sie hat sich sehr gefreut da Sie ein Antiquität Fan ist und kann sowas Stundenlang durchblättern.. Dient auch als optimale 'Coffee Table Book' wo man gelegentlich kurz irgendwo aufschlagen kann und findet was interressant. Leider glaube ich nicht in gebundene Ausgabe zu haben.
