Keep you and your family safe
I bought this heat alarm to install in our kitchen, along with a smoke alarm for our lounge. They were being added to 2 smoke alarms (hard-wired with battery backups) that already existed in our hallway. All are from the same brand. I went onto the company website and did a live chat and got an almost immediate response, that gave me the model numbers I required. Onto Amazon website and found the 3 items I needed very quickly. This alarm just requires suitable positioning on the kitchen ceiling, using a base plate secured using two plastic plugs and screws (provided). Read the installation booklet about orientation of all your alarms before doing this. Use a slightly smaller drill than suggested (4.8 instead of 5 mm if it is a plasterboard ceiling) and then push the plugs in place and insert the screws through the base plate. Follow procedures in the installation booklet to house code this alarm, so that if it sounds an alarm your other alarms in the house will activate too and alert you wherever you are in the property. It is attached to the base plate by twisting it onto it. It will only fit one way, and as it does a plastic tab on the alarm makes contact with a switch on the base plate and switches on the battery. Note that this model has a radiolink built into it, so that the alarms 'talk' to each other. It means that the basic alarm has a battery AND the radiolink module has its own battery. Both should last for a period of ten years. The replace by date is noted on them both. It could mean that the module needs replaced before the alarm in which it is installed. These batteries are NOT replaceable. You will need to replace the module and/or alarm. There are cheaper options available from other companies, but I wanted to extend what we already had rather than starting from scratch. I have been in this house for 18 years, and had already replaced the 2 existing alarms once their expiry date came around. New regulations in Scotland come into effect in February next year. I think in England they are already in place? I think our insurances companies will be asking everyone if they have a compliant system in their house, otherwise your insurance costs will be higher, or if you make a claim and they find you do not have a compliant system then your claim could be reduced or refused altogether. I would certainly recommend this brand.

Straightforward to install
It's hard to say much about an appliance which provides a service in a situation that occurs rarely, hopefully never. The installation instructions are good and it's not too difficult to mount the alarm or connect it to others. Battery life? Not much can be said after only a few months. It's worth knowing that, when testing the alarm, a short push on the button triggers just this alarm, a longer push is needed to make it trigger any interlinked alarms.

Strange
The heat alarm came with the module already attached. I bought 3 smoke alarms at the same time and they all expire in 2032, except this one, it expires in 2030.
