Review after one and two years of use
I had the same type of pen made by another company and the quality of this pen is far superior. I've been writing with this pen for about a year now, and it performs consistently, is comfortable, and allows me to use all kinds of interesting inks. UPDATE AFTER TWO YEARS: This pen still performs very well. Since the time I purchased this pen, I ordered one or two other refillable pens but this one is the easiest to write with... it is designed to fit comfortably in the hand and the writing it produces is superior to the other pens.

Great Alternative to Fountain Pens!
I got this for when I needed to use a ballpoint, but wanted to run my fountain pen inks. I really like it. While it's not the same experience writing with a fountain pen, it allows you to use the inks you have on hand. It comes with a cartridge that is wedged in the top of the pen and an empty cartridge you can use to fill the pen up. You can also get the Monteverde mini converter too. I just use a syringe and fill the empty cartridge. But I also tried the mini converter too. Either way is fine. One thing I do like about using the empty cartridge and filling it up, is that you can leave the filled sealed cartridge in the pen and not have to worry about the attached cartridge popping off inside of the barrel causing a giant mess. It fills the empty void behind it. You could also use it as an emergency ink storage too. Really ingenious idea! It writes very well, and I'm happy with it. I'm currently running the Rohrer and Klingner Leipziger-Schwarz and the pen performs excellent. Cannot ask for anything more! I really wish more manufacturers would get on the bandwagon. This is a great idea and very eco-friendly.

Great Rollerball using Fountain Pen Ink at a Great Price!
This is a great rollerball pen. I have tried a number of rollerballs that use fountain pen ink and this is the only one that I have tried that writes smoothly and is comfortable in the hand The price is also great. Definitely worth trying!

pen will not write until you open the pen and swap the two cartridges
these pens ship minus the ink cartridge. okay, there's a cartridge except it's empty. the actual filled cartridge is hidden in the bottom of the pen unpunctured. I'm guessing they ship this way to avoid leakage. Would be nice if there was an instruction slip explaining this. Have been using pens for over 60 years and have never encountered this set up. The only way I figured it out was by watching a video. writes fabulously.

Writes a lot like a fountain pen.
Writes a lot like a fountain pen In that the ink flows freely and will continue to flow if you stop moving the pen. The ink that comes with it is OK and is easy to change.

A Rollerball that uses fountain pen ink!
This Schneider Ray Cartridge Rollerball Pen is an excellent rollerball pen that uses fountain pen ink. It takes standard international ink cartridges, and a standard international ink converter. I use a Pelikan ink converter with Noodler's Bad Belted Kingfisher ink. I simply dip the tip into the ink bottle and fill it as I would a fountain pen. It writes a wet, crisp line without any ink flow problems. I give this pen my highest recommendation. For those who wish to secure the barrel closed, try a few drops of Loctite on the threads. This will secure the barrel in-between ink refills, while allowing the barrel to be opened to replace the ink as needed.

Leaks Ink!!!!
Purchased 19 Jun 2025 used it maybe 3-5 times as it sat on my desk . A few days ago 31 Jul 2025, I had blue ink on my hand and I assumed it came from my contractors pen. Today 2 Aug 2025 days later I reached for this pen to write a date for a delivery and my hand is covered in blue ink. The paper has ink all over it. I got ink on my cell phone!!! Garbage pen! So much for my believing all the 5 stars. I call Amazon and the 30 day window is up even though this pen was barely used. Do not buy unless u want ink all over your hand/paper etc.

Great pen!
I have been looking for a pen like this for some time now. My refillables fit it well, and TIGHT seal. Had an old refill cart fail on me and I had no clue till I opened it. Wonderfully built, writes smooth, great grip. But a few, it's worth it to have them around.

There's really only one drawback to this pen I have discovered so far. The rollerball can be a touch "scratchy" but this is also expected in a roller tip with tight enough tolerances to allow use of a liquid fountain pen ink. I found a few hard starts when I first began using it, but it seemed to "break in" after about 5-10 minutes and hasn't happened since. I use the pen with a schmidt k5-style converter and it fits perfectly and securely in the pen body. I have used it with both Pilot Iroshizuku Tsukushi and Diamine Oxblood ink, both performed well. One note of caution, perhaps it goes without saying but do not use fountain pen inks that "shimmer" as the particles will either entirely clog or cause excess wear of the roller tip, and if you use ink with high degree of "sheen" be prepared to clean the feed system frequently (with that said the feed is very easy to flush using a converter). Overall it's a good way to use just about any ink you'd like in a nondescript way. I'm quite pleased with it, and I may just order a couple more.
