Q: Can I use this pan to make a layered cake? Will the sides of the cake need to be trimmed, or do the sides come out pretty straight?

The cake does not stick to the pan, it slides right out, so it would come out looking exactly like the pan; a square shape.

Q: Can it be used around a springform pan to prevent leaking?

I'm sure you could use this in a springform pan..however if your spring form pan leaks, probably need a new pan. If this silicone mold doesnt fit properly in your pan it will defeat the purpose of using it to line your pan....I'm a professional baker and have no issues with spring form pans unless one is dropped and not uniform around. I just replace the pan. Good luck

Q: Would this be considered ptfe?

No. Ptfe is Teflon. This is silicone.
