K&N24x24x1 HVAC Furnace Air Filter, Lasts a Lifetime, Washable, Merv 11, the Last HVAC Filter You Will Ever Buy, Breathe Safely at Home or in the Office, HVC-12424

I have always used K&N Air filters for my cars and they worked very well but when I came across this filter for my air handler, I just had to try it. Picture in the desciption is accurate. The filter i received is exactly what is pictured. Also included were some screws that were included just in case protruding screws were used in your system, you could remove them and use the provided flush sitting screws. I felt that was a nice touch and well thought out by K&N to include it just in case improper screws were used in the filter area of your air handler. As is typical with K&N air filters, there were more pleats than your typical filter. More pleats means more surface area to capture particulate and not impede air flow. The filter medium is PMMA which is an synthetic polymer/acrylic glass fiber material which is dense and durable with good filter efficiency. The is an air flow arrow on the filter so you know which way is the proper way to install it. Unlike their car filters, this required no oiling! Big win there!I have been using it for 6 months now and it has been working great. Cleaning it is quite simple. Simply vacuum off as much debris as possible (on the inlet side of the filter), then i personally lean it against a chair on my patio, with the outlet side pointing towards me, and gently spray from left to right starting from the top and going down. (They do sell a cleaner for it, but mine has not gotten stained or anything where I needed to use a cleaner other than water so far.) I do this a few times and then turn it so it's still leaning on the chair but only a single corner is touching the ground. I put a piece of rubber there so as to not damage the frame. Doing this allows all the water to go down to 1 location which helps it dry faster. Do not do it when it's windy out or you'll just end up having the wind blow dirt back onto the filter. Once it's dry you can put it back in. Being that it's a synthetic fiber, it will dry faster than organic media such as cotton. The only CON i feel is i would like the frame to be a little more rigid. This is subjective and did not affect the rating because the filter does exactly what it says it does. It does come with their usual limited lifetime warranty so that's a big plus. Overall, it works great for me and i'm very pleased that I purchased it.

Merv 11 was about as far I wanted to go for the fear of it being too restrictive. My older air handler seems to do fine. I haven't cleaned the filter yet so I can't really speak to that. I am satisfied with this purchase for the price I paid but since my purchase a few months ago the price has more than doubled. I would kept on shopping had it been $69 then.

This is a great alternative to the disposable filters. This will definitely save me money in the future. Easy to clean and install.

I had to twist the filter just a very little to get it over the lip of the intake frame and it fit, slightly loosely but it covers the duct open thoroughly.The instructions did not help; the company could explain better how to use, IF necessary, the screws included in the filter box.

Best thing, works great gonna get a 2nd one so I can always have one clean and ready to install. Don't forget to get cleaning product with item.

I ordered this product on line from Lowe's first, because they said it would arrive next day. When it didn't arrive after a month I called Lowe's and was told there could be no refund, someone would call me, and I would just have to wait. Nobody called. After a couple days I ordered this filter from Amazon. It came in 2 days. I bought the K&N because even the most expensive filters got sucked right into the return. But this one is sturdy ABS and is too heavy and stiff to do anything other than it is supposed to do, and that is stay in position and do its job. I have used K&N air filters in my cars and trucks. The Best. Wish I had found the HVAC filter 5 years ago when I bought the house.

Great filter unfortunately I had to return because I forgot to measure the closet door size🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ the air handler is in the closet and there’s plenty of room once you get past the door to install a 24x24 filter, but the door is only 20” so I could get the filter to go in since it’s rigid.
