Not as fast as the advertised reading time, but workable.
So many of these instant read thermometers make quite large claims of 2,3,4, or even 6 seconds. Don't be mislead. Though many will give A READING, this is not akin to an actual accurate reading. Just like those (and about 4 others I have owned recently), this one is similar. A reading will pop up within a second or two, but will be adjusting for at least another 6 to 10 seconds longer in my average testing with meats, water, ice, hand, melted wax, etc. What I like:So far, the heft and feel is nice enough compared to the many similar thermometer in function, but this one stands out on design and doesn't feel like all the others. That is nice for a start. It seems to be largely designed around 18650 lithium battery cells and seems to have 1 cell in it, possibly 2, but likely just 1. This is intriguing to me in that at least the unit will have power for a while, which I have found is the case. The panel (when lit, read below) is easy to read for the most part, though like many others, the buttons are hard to read since the symbols are black on black buttons. If they would only fill in the characters with white paint, or something similar, this is very easy to fix for them and seems like an oversight. Outside and grilling they are impossible to read without decent light. Inside, even then, they are hard to read if you don't know what they are from memory. What I don't like:The LCD backlight turns off much too quickly, which I timed to be 8 seconds, but the reading can often take longer than that. Not long enough to take a reading, only long enough to adjust the temp range to "Beef" for instance, but not long enough to capture said required temperature. And this seems like a huge letdown considering the battery capacity is HUGE in contrast to other instant read thermometers. What gives!? You have so much more power, but miss an opportunity like this to capitalize on that! Let the backlight timeout at say 20 seconds or maybe even 30, or let me even turn it on myself, which the unit doesnt have a "light" button. It does have a button for "power/set", and you can hit this again to light the display for another 8 seconds, but this is not intuitively clear on the unit itself. This unit could have been so much better, but falls very short for no reason that I can tell. The probe is also a bit fiddly to deploy and should have another indent possibly along the middle to reach it. What is the point of only being able to retract the probe from the sharp point of it (also the point that then goes INTO THE FOOD), when we could simply deploy it from the mid point of the probe. Horrible design execution on this. Ignoring it makes it pretty easy to inadvertently poke yourself, this is near impossible to reach with an oven mitt or other utensil in hand. This could be a lot easier to work with.Charging port is Micro-B USB port in 2021, while USB-C is largely the connector to have to many reasons, insertions over time is much higher, no single direction of entry, future compatibility, and charging rate just to name a few. This seems a no brainer to change over for the foreseeable now and future.Overall:For the price, the unit does mostly what it says it does, but the time to an accurate read, the short backlight timer, and probe release make this hard to truly recommend. And it is a shame because this could be at the least a B+ rated device, while instead I struggle to give it a C. Maybe the 6 instant read will be more instant and not fall short of easy design decisions.

Great Ergonomic Thermometer
The Homendless Digital Thermometer appears to be useful for testing your meats for accuracy of doneness. When I took it out of the box to check it out; it felt a bit hefty. It weighs in at 5.3 ounces (150 grams) which is pretty heavy compared to other electronic temperature probes I have used. But it fits comfortably in your hand for use.It comes with a small manual that gives information on how to run it. The instructions are pretty easy to understand. You can set the probe language to one of 7 different languages. On the paper, one side is in English, the other side is in Spanish. It comes with a USB charging cable. It has a rechargeable Lithium Ion Battery. The battery life is around 40 days the manual states. It didn't take me very long for it to charge initially. There are 4 buttons on the front of the unit, and the directions don't accurately represent these a. Decrease/Increase temperature buttons (also used to toggle between types of meats, poultry, turkey, burger, etc). b. Power Button c. Temperature Mode Button (C or F modes) d. USB Power Charging areaThe nice thing is that the display will tell you what the temperature desired is for type of meat i.e. Beef - medium rare actual temp 145.When you insert the probe into the food, it will beep when the selected temperature has been reached. However, if the temperature of the food is higher than the set temperature, the unit will buzz about every 30 seconds while the probe is in the food. If the food temperature is higher than 392 degrees F (200 C), then the unit will display "HHH" and constantly flash. The unit will auto power down after around 5 minutes of inactivity. It takes it around 3-5 seconds to display a temperature. It is also waterproof, so if you get it dirty, you can wash it under running water and it won't affect the unit. The probe itself is 5.5 inches in length. It is stainless steel and wipes off easy after each use. It folds out to 180 degree angle and then folds back into the unit for easy storage. It has 7 meat modes pre-programmed and 3 doneness modes. One of the drawbacks to this probe is that it is difficult to see what the buttons are used for. Although the function is embossed into the rubber button, it is all black, so you can't see what it says very well. It would be better if the buttons were a lighter color or else the embossed settings were a different color to set them off so that you can see what they are used for (for those who have difficulty seeing small items). The unit does function the way that the directions state and it seems pretty accurate (within 2 degrees according to the manual). Comparing this to another unit that I have, it seemed to be accurate.I feel that this is a great thermometer that will not disappoint. I am pleased with this purchase.

More Than Anyone Needs
I bought this because the battery powered one I had stopped working and changing the battery was next to impossible. This one is rechargeable. That's a plus and, once you get used to it, it works. The problem is, it does too much. For example, you can, with considerable effort, set a desired temperature. When you do, the thing wails if you stick it into the food and the desired temperature is exceeded. For a digital thermometer that has a probe to stick in the food, while the unit itself is outside the oven, that's a useful feature, but this thing is hand held. You know what the temperature is as soon as you stick it in, so you don't need an alarm telling you the foods too hot. The feature makes no sense and complicates using the device. Another complaint is that the default is Celsius. To get a Fahrenheit reading, you have to press and hold button and there's no way to change it to read Fahrenheit by default. You get used to it, but it's a nuisance. For the price, it's an OK deal, but if there were a rechargeable one that just gave a Fahrenheit temperature reading, that would be so much better. Maybe there is, but I couldn't find one.
