great book
Michael Vey 3: Battle of the Ampere The book and series is Great! It is for ages young and us older Folks! great to read with your kids, grand-kids, or a class assignment!I watched an interview with Richard and was very impressed and intrigued about the book series and why he wrote the books! What a great dad to do this for not just his son, but all kids who are bullied and feel less than!I was looking for something to help continue a passion for reading in my g-son (who was almost 9 at the time-he loved me reading to him all his life, so I bought and read the first book Michael Vey: The Prisoner of Cell 25! Well I could not put it down (and am in my 50's!) I read it in one day! The following day I told my g-son about the book, brought it to him, and to my great happiness, he LOVED IT!! It took him a few days to read it, between school and homework. He didn't even want to sleep!! It was the fastest he ever read a book of this size. We read a lot of it together, (which I loved!) He, we, thoroughly enjoyed the book, so we couldn't wait for the second book, Michael Vey 2: Rise of the Elgen! uggggh the wait!!!#2 did not disappoint! It again was a fast read for the both of us and we both enjoyed it as well. It had a lot of action and adventure (more than the first) and was thrilling to say the least. The bad thing about a series book is the wait for the next one to come out. The good thing about a series is the next book that comes out, lol! So now the long wait for #3 Michael Vey 3: Battle of the Ampere.#3 was full of adventure, but the first part of the book seemed to draw out a little, maybe because of all the different languages, not really sure why it was slower, but my g-son unfortunately lost interest in it. I was not able to spend as much time with him to read it with him, and there was a lot of life happening to us at the time. I enjoyed the book though and finished it in 2 days instead of one. It was very exciting and thrilling once the story really got going. Now I have been impatiently waiting for #4 Michael Vey 4: Hunt for Jade Dragon which comes out in Sept 14 and I can't wait. It is to take place in China. The trailers really looks good and I am looking forward to the book. I also just found out a few months ago, this will be a series of 7 books. Excited to see where else the books go, but will be so dreading the long waits in between books.Great job Richard Paul Evans. I look forward to reading some of your other books, especially Walking on Water.

Michael Vey Series
This series is the best series I've read in a very long time. The author, Richard Paul Evans, draws you in within the first few words; heck the Prologue draws you in. I read all three on my lunch break each day & I didn't want to put it down. I brought them all home when I finished, which was just last week--(today is May 28, 2014), & my husband, who really isn't much on reading anything that isn't either his bible or politics---he's almost through with the last one. He's retired & has burning the lights late into the night to finish. I pre-ordered the 4th installment today & neither of us can hardly wait. It's action packed, fantastically written, keeps a great flow & you see the story he's telling. It all becomes so real to you; as if these were your friends experiencing the adventures. I recommend it more than I can even express!!!

Battle of the Ampere
The storyline of saving people and being heroes with powers comes into question in this book. This one puts the reality of war right into the heroes' faces. It's also interesting to see how they use and change the mental health issues with their environment.

Solid read, fun adventure, a couple nits to pick
I enjoyed reading the first two Michael Vey books to my sons and looked forward to the 3rd installment (and anxiously awaiting the remaining 4). Very much enjoyed the book - characters are deepening a bit, so you feel more connected to them. Though I hope we get even more depth to them over the ensuing books. I say that because the pace of this book felt just a bit more rushed than the prior two, as if he were rushed to get to print (probably was, due to all of us asking for it soon), so although the book didn't feel flawed, it gave the impression of being a few percentage points more superficial than it could have been (give more depth and background on characters like Jaime; build our our knowledge of Tessa a bit more) - one hopes we'll get that chance in future books and I'll end up eating these words. My second nit, and yes, this is a small nit, but I found it offputting - surely the author can find more ways of saying "said" than just using "said" all the time. Perhaps it's not as irritating when you read silently, but reading the book aloud to my children I actually started replacing it with "replied", "stated", "retorted", "observed" and the like. I just found it getting tedious to have every other sentence end with "[name] said." The words of my sophomore English teacher kept ringing in my ears about the scores of ways you can communicate "said" - he even had a poster on the wall with all the words he expected us to become conversant with. Maybe a function of rapid drafting that wasn't caught through better copyediting. Anyway, enough of the nit - I really enjoy the characters; their electric powers are a nice diversion from the usual superhero fare, and I like that they're human and flawed without being gritty and jaded - thanks to Mr. Evans for avoiding the post-modern angst that has become so popular in today's superhero genre. Well done - looking forward to #4.

Battle of the Ampere
I rated it a 5 star because it was an enjoy able read. Although it is fiction it is believable and I can relate to the characters. I also do not have to worry about sexual content and foul language. That is a real plus for me because most books today that are not geared to young children are filled with those things. I find the book exciting as well as uplifting, because of the loyalty and love the characters have for one another. I didn't find this volume to be as riveting as "Rise of the Elgin" but it was still a good read. I can't wait for the next volume. I think it is a excellent book to read to 9 and 10 year olds and for any one over that age to read for themselves. I think the series is ageless.
