Vostok company story starts back in 1942, when one of the Moscow watch-making plants has been evacuated from Moscow to a little town Chistopol located on the Kama River. Defense equipment was the only company output during war years, but as soon as the war was over Vostok started to make mechanical wrist watches - the main production item ever since. In 1965 Vostok company was appointed an official supplier of watches for the Defense Department of the Soviet Union. This year marks the creation of the world-famous "Komandirskie" ("Commander") watch. Military watch grew very popular even with people who were unaware which end of the gun bullet comes off, mainly due to high precision, excessive reliability and durability. The appearance of the watch also contributes to its appeal - functional and clear-cut design invoked the feeling of belonging to the tough world of combat professional. The experience which Vostok gained through development of the army watch was the foundation of our next special watch - "Amphibian". This impressive timepiece in stainless-steel case endured the depth of 2000 meters - kind of a wrist submarine. Success of the professional watches determined the company's present philosophy - to create mechanical watches maintaining precise timekeeping at any temperature, in any environment, surviving heavy pressure and blows. The viability of the chosen strategy is now time-proven. A vast multitude of people both in Russia and abroad boasting "Vostok" watches and various international prizes awarded for high quality and commercial success testify to this. My beloved husband loves it!
This is the 4th Vostok watch I buy, I bought another model of this brand last Christmas for my hubby ( he loves watches)I wanted something completely different. They are made in Russia and with love :-). They are sturdy and well made, he liked it so much I decided to get him this model he saw here and loved. He is so happy. Since I liked them myself I bought 2 for each of nephews (age 16-19) and they couldn't believe these were actually made in Russia, they love the writing in them. They like to show them off to their friends. Kids. I highly recommend this brand, they have several models all of them well made and durable. This one in particular is gorgeous. You are not going to get such a great watch (self-winding) for this price. Once you see it looks like a much more expensive one. It is beautiful.

Great quality, but on the large side
I bought this watch for my wife, as it is close to a dress watch look and feel. It might be on the large side for a ladies whist, but she loves it. Very good quality as you would expect from Vostok.The watch is nicely finished and I am sure my wife will get many years of good time keeping out of this watch.

Tremendous value.
This was one of my first automatic mechanical watch purchases and it will stay in my collection forever. Cons: The seconds sub-dial is smaller than you'd expect based on the pictures, and the lume is almost nonexistent. The strap it comes with is not suitable for human use. The movement is also remarkably loud, but that's actually something I have grown to really like...Pros: I get nothing but compliments when I wear this watch. The hand wind is satisfying and the shape of the crown makes it very easy to grip. I love the hand shape, the font used for the hours on the dial, and the finish decoration on the movement is great. You are getting a lot more than what you should reasonably expect at this price point. I would enthusiastically recommend this watch to anyone willing to also buy a strap.

Just Received It In Good Time
I own quite a few Russian mechanical movement watches. This classic design, model and size is one of my favorites.I own another model with this same movement which has lasted 10 years. The regulation is very well.

It’s done after one year.
Granted, it’s not an heirloom watch. The manual says it’s only designed to last 10 years. But mine lasted for just less than a year. That’s about a 10% fulfillment, so they probably only deserve half a star, but they can get the full star for a nice look.This was the second time it stopped working. The first time I opened it up and discovered two screw had come loose and were stopping the gears. It was an easy fix. The second time it stopped, the same thing had happened, but it will not run again.I’m seeing some rust inside the casing, so water may have played a role. Still, I was pretty good about keeping it dry. So much for водозащищённы—water resistant.

Vostok Rocks
I was very pleased that this item arrived well ahead of schedule and I found that upon use it kept very good time only +4 seconds a day right out of the box and that is very good for an automatic watch.

My son absolutely loved this watch. He is very fussy about strap's and face colours etc. This watch ticked all the boxes and more. Neat, well made, with a rear viewing window for the mechanism and a great story of the manufacturing during ww2 and after. Great present and a great price.

Child size strap.
I ordered this watch thinking it would fit a ''man''sadly this is not the case. My wrist is a man size 8 inches around, the strap on this watch seems to be made for a child.I can barely make the ends meet. Soldiers in the Russian army must all be migets or child soldiers.The watch does look great and seems to be good quality, I guess I will have to try and find a man sized strap at a jewellers.This of course will add to the cost, hence the 3* review.
