Another Marvelous PBS/BBC Natural History Documentary
A landmark three-part series that reveals the extraordinary animals and remarkable people who make their home on the iconic mountain ranges of the world.Himalaya - Meet the extraordinary wildlife and people of the Himalaya - the highest mountain range on earth, where the air is thinnest, the wind the strongest, the storms the fiercest. The higher you climb, the tougher it gets to survive. See snub-nosed monkeys, snow leopards on the prowl, and Tibetan monks performing ancient rituals high in the mountains.Rockies - The Rockies stretch 3000 miles across a beautiful wilderness of snow-capped peaks and hidden valleys. They are home to cougar, wolverine, wolves, and grizzly, and where daredevil wingsuit fliers jump from high peaks and Native Americans compete in breakneck horse races.Andes - The longest mountain range on the planet holds dozens of hidden worlds, from the driest desert on Earth to cloud forests teaming with life. Pumas hunt guanaco, shape-shifting frogs hide in remote forests, and the descendants of the Inca build bridges of grass. Magnificent snow sculptures, huge salt lakes, and spectacular peaks are all found in these rugged mountains.

Beautiful photography
This DVD was recommended by my mother, and I can see why. This is some of the most stunning photography I've seen. It explores in depth various mountainous regions of the world, showing us both the lives and habits of the people and wildlife, but also depicts areas that I knew nothing about. I especially loved the Rockies, but also loved the way the children in the Himalayas get to school

of course the Himalayas were interesting
but the other mountain ranges covered were even more interesting---especially the Rockies. Love David Attenborough but these are a very welcome addition to my nature viewing!

Has US regional setting, my DVD player couldn't play it
The DVD comes with a US regional setting and my two (rather old) DVD players couldn't play it. While I know there is a work around to change the settings of the DVD player to "all regions" it was rather complicated for the old players and I couldn't be bothered and watched it using an external drive on my laptop. The documentary itself is great and I guess newer DVD players don't have this regional settings problem.
