Not up to Speck reputation
UPDATE 3/8/2014True to its reputation speck quickly sent me a replacement. Its been now a few weeks. The new case is holding very well. I'm pleasantly surprised. A few observations I'd like to share.First, the replacement case rear tabs appear to be much much sturdier (knock on wood) than the original's as best as I remember (I had to send the original back).Second, mindful of the tab problem I developed a habit of carrying my notebook rear tabs upside. This reduces the load on them and hopefully will contribute to longevity.Thirdly I'd like to reiterate that other than this rear tab issue (now apparently fixed for me) speck's case is terrific in every other respect. Highly recommended.I'm keeping rating at four for now, will report back in a month or two and hopefully be able to update rating to five!ORIGINAL REVIEW BELOWLet me start by saying I'm a huge fan of speck products. Nearly every apple device I own has a speck case. And I always readily recommend speck. As well let me point out speck's spectacular customer service. I've had to reach out to them once and they took care of the issue quickly and to my full satisfaction. This review is NOT a reflection on the company. This case however is a disappointment. And I don't see how it can be fixed. The way it is designed, there are two small tabs on the rear of the bottom shell that are way too thin and indeed both broke off after only about 1 month of normal use. In fairness to Speck, there's simply no room to make those tabs any larger. So, while I"m not faulting the company the case itself just doest not work well.Everything else about the case is great, the feel, the "rubbery-ness". But what good is it if it won't stay on?

Fits my 2014 15" - but just barely
Purchased this for my 2014 Macbook Pro 15" before I read the reviews of it not fitting. I recently installed one of these on a 2013 15" and this one was much harder. Snapping the corner and edge pieces required multiple attempts on both halves. One of the corners didn't snap on the bottom half, which is why I only gave 4 stars.Fortunately it's above the top row of the keyboard (near the power button) where it shouldn't receive much stress. It may be a fault in my case as it's around the thickness of a playing card from fitting perfectly.Appearance-------------------I have the black and blue color variations and they are both awesome. The Apple logo is very clear and has sharp edges when lit on both cases. Which surprised me considering the aluminum is hidden on the black version. The blue is translucent and without affecting its size adds a layer of depth when looking at the computer. The black case, which I installed on my 2014 MBP, looks fantastic. It reminds me of the older black Macbooks but with a soft rubbery feel instead of hard plastic.Overall I'm very pleased with the appearance of both cases and will likely buy this same model when they wear out.

Great protection for my Macbook Pro with Retina
The case is designed to protect your MBP from normal things. Its not bullet proof and if you drop it from a high distance it will of course break. But what I like about it is that it protects the bottom from scratches and the top from dirty finger prints. I have kids so I wanted something that offered some level of protection and I received that with this item. I would recommend it to anyone looking to add some protection to their MBP. I've had the kids hit the top of the laptop with toys and no damage, so its a good case.Pro's:It lets the apple logo still shine through the top so it looks like the Bat signal when its on and when you shut it off it disappears. It fits tightly to the laptop as if its a second skin. Just snaps on and its good to go. I did it in 2 mins without issues. Its light and really doesn't add any weight to it. Maybe 1 pound but honestly you don't feel it.Con's:Its hard to wash off finger prints without using something wet. So using your sleeve won't work.It heats up when you watch movies. Of course your MBP is heating up like crazy but I think the hot air just gets stuck between the layers but its nothing to worry about. If it get too hot then the laptop will shut down but its something you should know. Conclusion:Its hard finding a case out there that you can trust with this expensive laptop but I really like specks case and would buy it again. It;s soft but protects it from normal impacts, wear, and kids. Unless they throw it out the window. :)

The best hard case for MacBook Pro with Retina display
I've been deciding a long time what to get for my 13" Retina MBP and i was really leaning towards cheaper alternatives. However, I decided to go with the renowned Speck cases and I certainly don't regret it. The fit is perfect, the matte finish is awesome and doesn't leave any fingerprints at all (there are some matte finishes witch do). The laptop is very well protected, both the top and the bottom. The bottom legs are very well made, much better than the MacBook's original ones. The apple logo glows in myst when turned on - this is both aesthetically pleasing and not disturbing. One small con is that the two parts of the case certainly make the laptop heavier and just a little bit bulkier. It seems that I now have a regular MacBook Pro 13"*. Therefore I think this cases are good for Airs and Retina's, but not so much for the fat Pros. If you value the low weight and size of your Air/Retina and don't want to increase them in any way, look for a sleeve or small thin laptop bag.In the end I just have to mention once more the awesome matte finish. It just makes you wanna touch your MacBook all the time :) It is that good! And probably the main reason I loved this case from first sight.* A week later I've decided to check the added weight and bulk. According to my readings, the MBP 13" Retina (1.6kg, 19mm thick) with the case on gets 2.1 kg and around 24mm thick. So basically, yeah it becomes the size of a fat MBP 13" and even a little bit more. But I still don't regret about buying this case. The protection, the matte feel, and the change of style are good reasons to keep it on all the time. I have also a light pouch, which I now don't have to use when putting the laptop in my backpack or just carry around.

Big Speck Products Fan
I have been a bid fan of Speck Products since my first case a little over 3 years ago. This is another good quality product from Speck.Yes it is a bit expensive for essentially a couple of bits of plastic, but when you look at the cost of the laptop it will be protecting, it isn't really all that high. Some reviews have said that small specks of dust can get between the case and the laptop and cause some minor scratching. Yes that is true, but as long as you are careful this shouldn't be an issue. I have Speck cases on 3 other laptops and have not found any scratches caused by dust on any of them.Just make sure you clean both the inside of the case and the body of the laptop with a lint free cloth before putting it on the laptop. Although I very rarely remove the Speck cases from any of our laptops, you could always periodically remove the case and clean (if you feel you are working in a dusty environment).Still a highly recommended product.

Matt coating not up to scratch!
Arrived today. Quality isn't great if I'm honest, the inside of the case itself was very dusty and needed a good clean with a microfibre cloth. I got the bottom case on fine, though it was a bit of a scrape to get my MacBook Pro in but it didn't scratch. Top case was also dusty, and even trickier to get on. Just had to go with a leap of faith and push it on until the tabs clicked into place. I closed the lid and noticed a scratch in the centre of of the top case! On closer inspection the scratch turned out to be what looks like a defect in manufacturing where the matt soft touch coating hadn't been applied properly. Then I noticed another patch, and another. In total there are 4 areas on the lid that have the small patching effect. If this were a £10 case I might let it slide, in fact I probably wouldn't but being £35 for 2 bits of plastic it's already expensive. To come with dust on the product and scratches on it because of bad manufacturing what has my money been spent on? Probably cost all of 50p to make, or that's how it looks to me.Plus sides - it looks good before noticing the scratches. Feel good in hand and should do a good job of protecting my Mac. I am worried about the plastic tabs breaking off but will report back if that happens.

Good case to keep your precious MacBook scratch free
The case is very good looking, and has a nice matt finish. It is not a case I would choose to remove and clean inside of regularly - the case edge that 'clips' it into position is quite small and does look as if it could break easily, so I am very careful when I remove it. So far no breakages! This is a trade off by the designer in order to make the case as unobtrusive as possible I guess as the lines of the macbook are unaffected. At the end of the day the case is good looking and does the job you bought it for - it will undoubtedly prevent your macbook collecting scratches. The matt finish is prone to picking up micro scratches from the tiniest pieces of dirt - be careful if you let on a table upside down as I did, as it is liable to get scratched. When sat the right way up on a surface the integral feet in the case will prevent these scratches.

Great Looking Item, but will it survive the test of time ?
I bought this item to protect my brand new macbook from minor scratches, it does so perfectly, It wont protect it from bumps of falls but thats not what this product is intended to do. The 'satin" finish is a nice touch and definitely worth the extra money over the standard case by speck...However it picks up finger prints left right and centre ! The apple logo shines through the back, thanks to the products slightly translucent material, which is unnoticeable on the rest of the macbook. It looks and feels premium and doesn't take anything away from the MacBooks sharp looks.Unfortunately the cost of having a thin, clip on case is the durability of the product. The tiny clip/teeth parts that hold the case to the macbook feel flimsy and rather useless. If you handle with care and patience when first putting the case on, you wont have a problem. However it is recommended that you remove the case monthly to wipe down the macbook...i've had the product a few months now and ill admit this is a step i'm too cautious to attempt. it truly feels like any attempt at removing this snug case will result in the teeth snapping off ! for now, I'll be keeping mine on !
