Very easy and affective sharpening stone
I have chef quality kitchen knives and because of a lot of use, they needed a long over do deep sharpening. The stone was much easier to use than I thought and took less time than i thought to get edge back to a proper edges. Very happy with the ease and quality so far. Just a note do not soak the 6000 grit side at all just wet it as you use it to polish edges because the 3 min soak made it too soft and was easy to gouge. The 1000 grit only took the 3 minutes of soaking to properly sharpen edges. The size of the stone worked great for all my knives from a small paring knives to large 10 inch chef knife's. this product came from outside Canada there for delivery and exchange made the product more expensive than originally wanted to spend but after using it i would buy it again the quality of gather product is worth the price.

A good stone for starters
I bought this just to try it out. I also have shapton and dmt diamond plates. This is a little messy but sharped my standard kitchen knives quickly. A little mushy on the feel and it woorks better if you build up a slurry with either a flatting plat or a nagura. These will not sharpen the higher carbide steels i.e. s90v. But they did sharpen a knife in D2 at 63 rockwell.

Works as advertised
This product works exactly as expected. I recommend watching some videos on how to sharpen knives with whetstones prior to using it. The angle guide works ok but overall it is easier to use without it. After a few passes on the 6000 grit my old knives (older than 14 years without sharpening) could cut magazine paper without any effort.Caveat: Like all whetstones this will release a watery mess that will stain counters and rugs if it gets on it. I recommend using it in a pan with water in the pan below the level of the stone. This helps control the mess and provides an easy source of water to use to continue to wet the stone as it goes.

Takes some practice.
After purchasing a very nice Damascus knife set, I wanted to make sure to care for them by keeping them sharp and clean. I never used a whetstone before so it took a little getting used to. How much pressure to apply and the range of motion are things I had to practice on old knives a few times until I got the hang of it. I also watched a few YouTube videos which really helped with how to hold the knife while sliding it on the whetstone. The blades are now so sharp now, amazing how little effort is required to cut everything!!! I also bought the 3000 & 8000 grit stones with grinding stone.

Japanese instructions, stone quality
The instructions were in Japanese. Not very good if you can't read them. The stone does seem like a good stone. The corner was damaged in shipping. Little bit of a gamble but I am happy with it.

Excellent
I recently purchased the KING Whetstone Starter Set Include 1000/6000 Grit Combination Whetstone made in Japan and it has been an amazing experience. I was a bit hesitant at first because learning how to sharpen a knife at a constant angle can be difficult, but this set really works well. The 1000 grit stone was great for restoring the edge of my knives, while the 6000 grit stone gave them a nice polished edge. The included plastic guide was helpful but not necessary as I got better with practice. Overall, I'm very pleased with the results and would highly recommend this set to anyone looking for a quality whetstone to keep their blades sharp.
