A great little brush pen for testing out inks.
I bought this brush pen on a whim having seen a Youtube video of a very similar pen in use (their are lots of similar ones out there) and becoming interested in the idea of having a cheap brush pen with a convertor for using with your own ink. This Prettyia pen fountain brush pen has a see-through plastic body, which I quite like. Stylistically the design is clearly intended to look like a Lamy fountain pen, even down to the distinct shaped metal pocket clip. I have no idea what the brush tip is made of but it is quite a soft one.I had it for a while before I had the chance to try it out as the only ink I had was dip pen ink, which I think contains metallic flakes and so would possibly clog up the brush tip. I might try it later if I feel brave enough. In the end I bought a small bottle of Windsor and Newton fountain pen ink in an art chain shop so that I could give it a go. The choice of ink colours was a bit limited and so preferring dark inks for drawing I opted for purple. The ink tuned out to be pink or fuchsia when used but as this is a review of the pen not the ink that’s neither here nor there and I will review that separately.Getting the ink into the pen was simple enough. There were no instructions but it is simple enough. First you unscrew the one body to remove the convertor, which acts as you ink cartridge once filled. You then insert the convertor into the ink bottle, twist to draw up the ink and then holding it bottom up insert back into the pen, screw the body back on and away you go - almost. Before you can use it the ink has to get drawn down into the brush tip, which happens by the same capillary action that draws ink into a fountain pen nib I guess. It didn’t take long and there was no shying or anything else involved I just held the pen tip down and waited. The body of the pen is very plasticky and cheap but I should just say that thus far I have had no leaks from it and I bought it to try out the idea of using my own inks, not because I thought it would be a top quality brush pen.In use:Actually, although the tip took some heating used compared to the Pentel and Kuretake synthetic bristles tips that I am used to, it is actually quite good. With care some pretty fine lines can be achieved and being soft, wider lines are easily obtained from the brush tip. The ink feeds through really well from the convertor and the ink flow is generous and consistent. The line variation is pretty good though the transition between thinnest and thickest is not so easy to control as, for example, a Kuretake No.85, as the softness of this brush tip means it is quite easy to end up producing a thicker line without that much pressure. It’s okay though and for a non-brand brush pen with the added bonus of an ink convertor I have to say that I am impressed. It wouldn’t be my first choice of brush pen as I have better ones (the aforementioned makes) but it will allow me to experiment with different inks and different ink colours with out any risk to my best pens. A convertor is also available for my Kuretake brush pen but that costs a fair bit more than this pen (plus the convertor is £6-7 extra). I can therefore use this pen to try out inks including water-resistant fountain pen inks and see what happens to the brush tip before I risk them on my more expensive pen.I am not sure how I will clean the brush tip when I change ink colour. If the pen came with a squeeze convertor I could have used that to force water through the brush tip to remove the old ink but it doesn’t and the twist convertor will not help in that regard. I will probably just soak it or fill the twist convertor with water if switching from dark to light ink - so the convertor may help after all! Actually, the convertor might be International standard size (I only have Int’l short cartridges and so could not try) but if so you could probably buy a suitable squeeze convertor cheaply and easily and use that to clean it. In that case you could also use it with ink cartridges like a Pentel or Kuretake pen.PROS:It does exactly what it is supposed to.Ink flow is very good.Brush tip is better than I was expecting but a little on the soft side and not quite up tp the standards of the best.Good that an ink convertor was included and it worked really well and with no real mess when used with a small (14ml) ink bottle.Pretty inexpensive considering the above.CONS:It looks and feels a bit cheap and I have no idea why they copied a Lamy fountain pen as lay don’t make brush pens.No instructions provided, which some might require. Not that on the flattened-sided (Lamy-esque) shape of the body, but I I guess that’s just because I am not used to it.Some guidance as to suitable inks to use with it would also have been nice.Pocket clip notwithstanding I wouldn’t trust it in a pocket or travel wth it that much unless it was in a suitable (leak-free) container - to be on the safe side. I might be being a bit harsh here but I would trust my Kaweco Sport fountain pens and Pentel Pocket brush pens to remain lek-free under duress more.Re the above, some ink has found its way into the lid.OVERALL:This pen was a pleasant surprise. Everything worked just as it should do and the experience of using it was a good one and, thus far, mess free. Adding a squeeze convertor and some guidance re suitable inks would have elevated the pen, but as it is I think it is good value as well as fun to use. I will draw with it for sure, but I see the pen’s best use for me personally as adding colour to my permanent (black) ink brush pen drawings. And the colourI add with it (thanks to the inclusion of the convertor) can be anything I want, or at least anything I can find in fountain pen ink (which is pretty much anything). There are quite a lot of these pens available at various prices but only have tried this one I can say that I am pleased with it and am happy to recommend it.

Great brush-pens, excellent value, buy several!
Purpose: I'm using this product for (very) amateur Japanese writing practice and calligraphy.Positives: Basically everything.* Works with all my fountain pen inks (and some weird "scriveners ink" I had, which is incompatible with fountain pens).* Perfectly capable of producing lines from very fine down to about 5mm broad.* Attractive design (basically a clone of the old "Safari" or "Vista" fountain pens by LAMY, even the lids are interchangeable).* Refill screw-cartridge works perfectly even when sucking up directly through the brush (once you saturate the pen innards, obviously).Negatives: Not much at all.* Out of the ~10 I bought, I only had issues with one - unfortunately the bristles were slightly misaligned (with a stiff one slightly shorter than the rest) making it impossible to write properly in some directions. All the others were fine, though!* The loose plastic ring when you unscrew the base is a little bit irritating. I just glued it in place. Conclusion: Highly recommended item! Buy a handful JUST in case you get one with malformed bristles - no problem since they're so cheap! I look forward to these brush pens accompanying me for many years of my journey into 漢字書道 :D

good ink flow but the tip of the pen has a bent
I really like the pen. The only disappointment is the tip of the brush pen has a tiny bent and whenever I draw, I need to find a particular angel...

Ok
Ok but I found that after a short time the end of the brush tip did not keep its point.

A useful tool
A good companion to my Lamy Safari pen. My only criticism is the clip is rather strong.
