American Girl Pink Owl Bedroom Decor Girls Craft Kit

I have purchased this twice now as gifts for pre-teen girls. Having seen the open kit, I can tell you right now this is not difficult to put together. It includes each piece, pre-cut, some thread, a plastic needle, and stuffing. All of the holes are pre-punched, and the instructions are not difficult. This kit is more appropriate for a child between the ages of 8-11, who is capable of (and enjoys) following instructions. A more free-spirited, creative child who would prefer to craft her own project won't enjoy this as much (this describes the personalities of the two individuals to whom this was given as a gift).Overall, easy to make, instructions are great, pieces are ready to assemble, and product is a cute example of home-made decor that any little girl would be proud to say she had made on her own. IMO, adult supervision is not really necessary for a responsible child 8 and over who is a good reader and follows instructions well.

... unless you already own these two items. What comes in the kit will just frustrate a budding sewist. The threader in the kit breaks almost immediately because is not intended for embroidery floss, the needles were all different lengths, different eyes, and none of them were blunt point which is the best choice for pre-punched holes in felt. On a couple of the kits, the instructions were not included for the small animal, on the other two they were. It is helpful for a young child to have the instructions to follow for the small one. Otherwise, they are cute and easy enough for an 8 year old with supervision and they are happy with the resulting stuffed pets for themselves and their dolls.

This sewing kit is really easy and fun to make. My daughter loved this kit a lot. It has instructions that are very easy to follow. My daughter was able to do it herself but I helped a little. There are already holes in all the fabrics to guide you where to stitch. The instructions also include different types of stitches that will help you complete this project. I find this kit very helpful for learning new stitches. My daughter didn't know how to stitch but after this kit she is now getting good at it. It's perfect to carry around on vacations because it keeps you occupied for a long time. The big owl and small owl are very cute and are perfect as a decoration on your bed. This would make a very great birthday gift.

My 7-year-old daughter loved receiving this little set for Christmas. I thought the price was good and it looked very cute. Plus she loves it when there's a mother and a daughter involved.We started making it together and it was harder than she had expected. The instructions are ok and the materials were too, but it was just tricky lining up all the holes. The pieces are pre-punched (with little holes you put the needle through) and you need to actually line them up in order to get your pieces straight. And it really was pretty difficult. I ended up doing most of it for her and we didn't even finish it because she got frustrated and tired pretty soon. It's now sitting in a closet.It was pretty disappointing but still a cute set. I hope we'll get back to it and finish it at some point.

Purchased as a gift for my daughter as she completed another AG sew project. This one she especially enjoyed since she made one for herself and for her AG doll. Again easy directions and good quality materials. Nothing to hard or small for her hands to handle. She did come to me a few times to tie knots but besides that she just did it on her own. She was very proud of completing the project on her own. Would recommend this product for other girls (even as a group project or a party/troop project).

This was a fun craft, or would have been if I had realized and prepared for the long contruction time and the great amount of hands-on-help my 7 yr old would need in sewing this together. It is probably a perfect craft for a girl 10+ yrs old, but it took a LOOOOONG time for my daughter (with lots of my help) to get through 1 owl assembly. Instructions were pretty clear, all needed items were included, and the end product was very cute (and relatively sturdy so far) - but I'll be waiting till she's a little older to try the next owl!

I bought this for my 7.5 year old daughter for Christmas. My intention was to give her something that would keep her occupied while she was out for Winter Break. Well....it kept her....AND ME occupied which totally defeated the purpose. Granted, I am NO seamstress but this was a lot harder than I anticipated. That being said, I was able to use it as a real life lesson in 1) finishing what you start regardless of how hard the task 2) being proud of your work.The pillows are cute and look great on her bed. Would I buy this again.....absolutely not for a creative task for a kid to do themselves; however, if you are looking for a project to do together, this might fit the bill.

I purchased this for my 7 yr. old grand-daughter. We just made them during the holiday! She loved making the larger one while I should her what to do by making the little one for her younger sister. A wonderful way to teach sewing by hand. It was so easy for her to follow the pre-made holes where the stitches would go. Simply put together & the directions were very easy to understand. Would highly recommend. This is the 2nd American Girl Craft I have purchased & will purchase more in the future.
