U-N-T-A-N-G-L-I-N-G THE CONFUSION.... Made in China
Ok. After reading the reviews I wasn't sure what to do. Like many others I am SICK of the cheap expensive red plastic gas cans with the terrible snouts that don't work. So I headed to the reviews about this Justrite 2 gal can. I didn't need a big 5 gal size, and this 2 gal was right for me...manageable & not heavy when filled with gasoline. At the time I bought this, there were only two reviews. One was 5 star, the other 1 star. How do you decide from two extreme positions?? I agree with the 1 star rating reviewer as I do NOT want to buy a China product and get a substandard product. Shoot, I do not even want to buy from china period because I would rather support other USA citizens with my loyalty and money. But there are two things that 1 star review brought up: 1. China made means usually a Substandard product. Unfortunately I cannot find any fault or cheapness in this can. It's tough, well made, powder coating paint is great and the gas seals are flawless. 2. The reviewer claimed the ad description claims to say the can is made in USA. I looked carefully and maybe they changed the description in the fews months when he did his review, but I do NOT see a claim of USA made. Instead, I do see the statement..."The company, founded in 1906, is headquartered in Des Plaines, IL." In other words, an American company Justrite outsourced this 2gal blue can to China and didn't tell us made in China,... nor did they say made in USA either. They just got us thinking USA. I do think that every product should have a country of origin so we know as consumers where it was made. I do think this can's description is misleading to tout the company being US based almost as if implying this can is made in the US then not really saying but just implying it. That is marketing misdirection... and a form of deception. This happens a lot these days & I have to read things very carefully to pin down country of manufacture and not just look where the company headquarters are located. Fortunately we can still share our reviews freely with each other,...but for how long I wonder. So bottom line, I have to give it 5 stars. Built like a tank. Given the cheap labor in China this can would be more fairly priced about 30$ for this 2 gal size. But @ 56 & free ship it's actually priced MORE than the larger Justrite 5 gal size I just bot from amazon.com. One last note: Amazon gave 5-6 diff vendors offering this item. But I intentionally bot from Amazon.com & not one of the competing vendors. Sometimes outside vendors are hard to deal with in case of return (as other reviewers of similar cans indicated) so I bot from in-house Amazon for best customer service. BOTT LINE: great can, convenient size, strong spring loaded fill cap opens 3/4 (safety feature). I just temporarily block it open with a wooden wedge if I need to keep it open for filling. Top quality, easy pour, high price, yes made in China. EARNS 5-STARS.

I absolutely love this gas can
For something that seems like such a simple and utilitarian item, upgrading to an all-metal type 2 gas can is one of the most satisfying purchases I recall making recently. Every single time I pull this thing out to fill it I'm just delighted by its effectiveness. It's sturdy, never spills a drop of gas, stands upright and lets me insert the autofill nozzle from the gas pump and shuts off when it hits 5 gallons just like filling a car. If you do anything where you regularly need gas I can't tell you how happy you will be, just go ahead and buy it you will not regret the extra money compared to all the wasteful plastic ones you've probably seen come and go over the years. I can't believe I'm raving about a gas can but it is really really a quality item.

Excellent gas can - very well made
This is an excellent and safe storage can. It is well built and all metal. As required by the Type II standards it has one opening (spout) for pouring and one for filling. This relives you from the chore of unscrewing a spout (often with loose parts) in order to fill it or pour used fuel back in. I use mine to store gas/oil mix for my weed trimmer. It works well and the squeeze trigger lets me easily fill the small tank on the trimmer without rick of overflows. The squeeze trigger gives you fine control of the flow - this is pretty amazing for a gas can and is a big big safety feature. The fill opening has a VERY strong spring on it (good for safety in a fire situation) and it can be a bit of a chore to hold that open when wrangling the trimmer to pour unused gas back into the can. I need to get a funnel which might make this easier. Filling the can at the gas station is not difficult and the stiff spring is not a problem. There is a small amount of assembly required to mount the spout to the body of the can. Follow the instructions and you won't have any trouble. Another big plus is the 10 year warranty on this can. Yes there are cheaper cans out there, but not better ones. I keep the can outside, away from my house in a large plastic bin to protect it from the weather. Please, NEVER keep gas inside your house or garage. It's just too dangerous and you just can't know what might happen to that can when you are not around. An old boss of mine lost her home to fire when gas spilled in the garage and was ignited by the water heater. A bicycle fell and overturned the gas can which slowly leaked.

Just buy this! Do not waste money on cheap plastic gas cans!
I will keep this short. 100% satisfaction. Very sturdy, well made. Good construction. The pour mechanism is superior. It allows steady fast flow and must have a vacuum breaker when you pour, unlike the plastic cans that slow down as you pour unless you let the vacuum relax by turning the can up. Do not forget to buy the 5/8 inch diameter model if you want to fill a standard (not diesel) gas tank in your car. I really wish I did not waste money on two different plastic 5-gallon cans at the local big box hardware store. They leak, vent gas too easy, are hard to fill and pour, and start to crack along the knit-line plastic weld seams. These metal cans are made in the USA and are worth every penny. Do not be cheap, pay more and get these. I also bought a small can for my lawn mower. I feel much better having these from both the safety in storage and the ease of filling and using them. They also have flash suppressors which is a very big safety plus. Thank you to the manufacturer for making a quality product in the USA and for Amazon for delivering them via Prime.

Solid
The best all around solid gas can. Easy to fill and pour, self venting, nothing not to like. Knocking a star as mine arrived dented, not a huge debt, maybe the size of a US dollar bill. Not worth the hassle of returning as these things get dinged up via normal use. Just kinda nice to receive a new product undamaged. Might be better buying these from a local retailer, as price will not vary much, you support a local business, and you know the quality. I need a few more and will buy in that fashion.

Best fuel can I have found on the market. Pros: They just work great. All metal construction, good paint, and fantastic valves that can accurately release fuel at the speed you want - from a trickle to wide open. They do not tip, and are just a quality gas can! Hard to find good quality gas cans, but Justrite still makes them! Con: The fill port is spring loaded with a fairly strong spring and does not have a lock open feature for filling. Not a deal breaker, but a little inconvenient if filling from anything other than a metal dispenser nozel.

Good overall. No damage in shipping.

I ordered this Justrite can 3 times and canceled, kind of worried spending $190 Canadian for a small top-up gas can is not justified. Today, my type 2 2.5 gallons can have arrived, and I tested it. It is easier to control and operate than a plastic can. It is solid, well built, and felt safer to operate itself. Well worth the price.

Just got this a day ago. Filled it up and had it in the back of my truck, leaked gas all over the inside of the bed, and I can see where it is leaking. The traces of evaporated gasoline are visible in the picture of the side of the container. Very disappointed, considering it is marketed as a SAFETY CAN and leaking highly flammable liquid is not safe. What are you going to do about this?
