Shanghai StoryChinese Dress Long Cheongsam Satin Qipao for Women

Colors more vibrant than picture (for the red)!
I ordered a dozen red qipao intended for a wedding dinner, and the ones from Shanghai Story were by far better quality than other brands around the same price. This one in particular was my favorite. There is real embroidery on the dress (not just printed design), and the colors in the threads (greens, blues, pinks etc) are even more vibrant than in the picture -- a good reference to look at would be the artwork on the darker maroon red one. The fabric is not too thin, and the threads of the embroidered design have a nice sheen to them. Many people may be unfamiliar with the typical fit of qipao. They are meant to be custom tailored after purchasing and in fact can be very easily tailored by taking in the two seams in the back; if you have some experience with a sewing machine, it could be a DIY deal. Generally, you would find the hip to be the tightest part. Therefore, probably size up to make sure the hip is not too tight, allowing you to sit, and then take the waist in more for your custom fit. Earlier reviews that complain the fit is only good if you plan to stand miss this fact.

Beautiful dress and interesting fit
The fabric is beautiful and I really wished it fit better. I appreciated the comment that these dresses are made to be altered in the waist and still the fit was still small arround my shoulders. I am about 5'4" and 120lbs, 34in bust and 16.5in shoulders and got a 6. Based on the size chart I should've gotten a 14 but that just didn't make sense to me. Lesson learned for me.

Fits terribly- not cut for a human body
I am 5’6” and about 150lbs. I have wider hips and a smaller waist line. I ordered an XL of this dress for part of my wedding celebration as my husband’s culture is Chinese. The dress hardly fits over my hips and if I raise my arms up, the dress rides up about 6 inches. I can’t hardly move while wearing the dress and the top is way too loose. There’s way too much fabric around the torso. It seems very cheaply made and is not cut well. Even if the hips were looser, it still wouldn’t fit well because of the way that the shoulders and arms are designed. I would not recommend this item .

good fabric and beautiful
it runs small, so I decided to order 2 sizes bigger than my usual size and it fits perfect. Had a lot of good comments.

Traditional Look
Bought the smallest size for granddaughter who is 16 yrs old and just 5 ft tall. Was a bit long and could be taken it a bit. But it still looked good. She was very happy.

The material is good. But the cut is not very good.
It does not fit well. From the size chart, I should wear a size 6, but it is too big for me when I get the item. I am 103 lb, may be a size 4 will fit better.

Gorgeous Dress, But Be Mindful of Sizing
The Shanghai Story Chinese Dress Long Cheongsam Qipao is absolutely stunning. The satin fabric gives it a luxurious feel, and the traditional design is both elegant and timeless. However, I would advise potential buyers, especially those in the U.S., to be cautious with the sizing. This dress is designed for a more petite, traditional Chinese physique, and the measurements might not align with typical American sizes. It’s a body-hugging style, and if you're curvier or taller, you might find the fit too snug or short. I recommend going up at least one or two sizes if you're not sure.Overall, it’s a beautiful piece, but buyer beware when it comes to sizing!
