A great sequel!
I enjoyed this novel as much as I did Anna Elliott's first novel in this series, Susanna and the Spy. I found both Susanna and James to be interesting characters in the first novel and so I was eager to read more of their story. I was not disappointed. This novel was complete with the mystery and suspense that the first novel contained, aswell as a heightened awareness of the passion developing between the two characters. Both of these things made this novel a worthwhile and entertaining read. The other characters in this novel were also well-developed, and I feel as though Ms Elliott does a particularly good job in crafting her characters to fit in with various stereotypes of the time period. That is not to say that they are boring in their stereotypes, but rather they are allowed to flourish in a novel that allows them to 'play their part' to the fullest extent.I would recommend this novel to anyone with a love of regency novels, albeit that this novel falls more into the mystery category than it does the romance. However it is unique in how it entwines both of these things together to create a story that is enjoyable all the way around.

Excellent, just one issue
My only issue with this book is the rather unbelievable things the heroine sometimes does. The first book in this series was spot on. I could imagine Susanna doing those things, I had no problem with her adventures. But once we moved to London, there it got dicey. If she had taken a burly coachman or footman along on her escapades through the London streets at midnight I would have had an easier time of it. But alone... no, not at her time. Everything else about the novel was great. I would have liked a little more James, both as Lord Ravenwood and as M Casters, just more in general. The book is masterfully written. Very very highly recommended for all Regency Romance lovers.

Spies, scoundrels - lots of fun
London Calling by Anna Elliott is the second installment of the Susanna and the Spy Novels. If you are into light Regency Romance, with a little mystery mixed in, then this is the book for you.Susanna Ward, in 1809, is engaged to marry Lord James Ravenwood. It's an ideal match and Susanna waits, impatiently, for James to return to her uncle's estate, Rutherford Hall, to complete the wedding plans. She receives, instead, 'two' letters. One from James, postmarked from his estate in Derbyshire, declaring his undying love. The other, from Aunt Sophia, who informs her niece that she has just seen her finance, James, flirting openly with a very beautiful, notorious woman at Almack's in London.Susanna is not a woman to sit around and stew over what is, or isn't true, and makes a deal with another aunt, Ruth Maryvale, to accompany her to London so she can discover what's amiss. From the moment they alight in the City perplexing events begin to take place. Susanna's first glimpse of her betrothed is one of him aiding in a robbery with a band of French rogues. As the plot deepens Susanna and Aunt Ruth find themselves entangled in a nefarious network of spies and scoundrels. This book is a fun read if you don't mind stretching the imagination. A single woman, gadding about London unescorted, and in the finery of the day sets about aiding her beloved in his plot to foil foes of the King. Climbing trees, creeping down dirty alleyways, flirting with dangerous men - can it get any better?

Such a fun book!
This is a follow-up to Elliott's first book in the series, Susanna and the Spy, and just as good as the first one, if not better. It's not a simple problem to have a fiance who insists on serving his country in a very dangerous way, and Elliott handles the developing relationship between Susanna and James, and their sweet romance, with a deft hand. Plus, it's a fun adventure, with a great historical backdrop in the Napoleonic wars. All in all, a wonderful cozy mystery.

a good read, but not that great
I'd give this 2 and 1/2 stars if that were possible. 3 stars is a good read, but this book, although okay, is just not that memorable. There isn't enough character development so that I got invested in the characters, and the action disregarded regency conventions at times. The mystery part was somewhat interesting. I think it's worth more like 99 cents than $3.99.

This story was very cute, very fluffy and had a happy ending. The characters are interesting and well-rounded and the mystery is intriguing. This was a couple of hours of entertainment well worth the cost.
